Default DIY: 991 RS Wing Endplate Removal

Just like member Four Liter here, we both had Porsche Exclusive painted options on our allocated and specced RS.

We both had Guards Red painted for our mirrors and our wheels to match the Guards Red graphics.

Only thing that Porsche Exclusive wouldn't paint Guards Red were our RS wing endplates.... for some ungodly reason they just wouldn't do it.

The colors Porsche Exclusive said they could paint other than the standard Matte Black were White, Lava Orange, and Silver.

So to make the Guards Red theme complete I decided to just to remove the wing endplates myself and get them painted.

So if you have a deviated color theme for your RS and you didn't want to just use vinyl for your wing endplates, this DIY removal is for you also.

Attached are pics for following.

1) remove the 2 screws on the underside of the rear wing on each end of the endplates.

2) pull the butt end of the rear endplate and u will see a little double sided 3M adhesive holding the wing and endplate.... just use the end of a door panel removal tool to detach the 3M adhesive.

3) now with both hands, grab each end and wiggle the endplate off. No need to detach the clips with a tool, the wiggling will remove the clips from there place.

4) paint endplates your desired color

5) add a small strip of 3M double sided adhesive in the rear of the endplate or wing where the wing and endplate attach.

6) wiggle each endplate back into place

7) apply some blue threadlock to each of the size 25 Torx screws and screw the 4 Torx screws back to place.

Voila..... Finito...... enjoy your cars new look.

Hope this helps.

By the way: Have you considered painting the lower black plastic on the rear bumper?

Nice DIY and great design choice (love the 73RS and 996/997.1 GT3RS look)! How about a photo with entire car shown?

Interesting they wouldn't paint them. Wonder why... the GT4 I had, had deviated mirrors and wing tips painted guards red that exclusive did (for a big fee!)

I like the look.

Yeah, one of the rarest color combos for the 7.1 RS.

There was only 2 7.1 RS I believe in the USA that came with the white/red combo.

One was sold from Porsche Fremont in the SF Bay Area and I believe the other was sold originally back east in Florida.

I was looking at I think your RS back in the day when I was in the market for one.

Thanx for the pic and compliment.

I like the look.
If the standard matte black end plates were not warranted, then the only colors approved for Porsche Exclusive were Carrera white, lava orange, and GT silver. Have no idea why.

I like the look too and made the look complete 👍🏽

Thanx JCBH for the compliment.

At least not able to do Porsche Exclusive approved colors helped in making us know how to tinker with our cars and provide info for future 991 RS owners to remove/change the wing endplates

All my GT3 cars had white cages....... and I decided if I put a cage in this one, it would only be a Porsche OEM clubsport half cage. I try to stay with OEM stuff these days. But the 991 clubsport half cage can not be bought New from Porsche unfortunately.

I had a Full front and rear OEM clubsport cage on my 997.2 RS and loved it.
