It's fun to theorize and fit ones personal biases into the outcome but the reality is much simpler, it's a factory, these are German engineers and there are lifecycle dates. Plan > Design > Build > Sustain > Plan > Design > Build >Sustain, etc.... Take a break from Rennlist for a decade and you'll find new threads on how the 2029 Base Carrera is faster than the 991.2 GT3 around the Nurburgring. And like Pavlov's dog, rumors from Zuffenhausen have all of us salivating before we even see the food bowl.

This new 4.0 needs to " prove itself " just like the 991.1 GT3 engine did!

Simple really, the new motor won't blow itself up (yet at least).

haahah well said.

Buy the new gt3 then lease it back to porsche for a couple of months plus throw in a new engine at no extra charge.
why not??

Haven't they done that already in the Cup cars, or did I miss something?

There are rumors of a 'T'/Touring version, might be similar minus carbon body panels. Rumors are that it might be an option on the GT3 (spoiler-less, no clubsport, I would guess, LWFW). To me this would make more sense as a separate model, like the R, and Porsche too, as they could add a bit of a premium on a cheaper to make car.

They've started running them relatively recent. I wouldn't conclude just yet it's Mezger grade. Although it seems the safest bet in the new cars by far! And the fact it's shared with the race cars it's very very good news, the same it should've been in the .1 gen!

I believe the the Mezger motor was still being used in the Cup cars as of last year, so using the race motor couldn't happen, at least not with the PDK. I could be wrong. I do know that the new Cup cars are using the RSR motor, which is being advertised as the motor in the .2.

The race version of the brand-new GT3's engine was put into the GT3R first, then the RSR and current Cup car.

This^

Mantheys 991R have been running great during last years endurance series. Watched it during Dubai 24h and seemed bulletproof.

Hope the 991.2gt3 will be the same.

As much as I love the idea of the SWFW on the R engine, having driven it about 700 miles last week on a road trip, I think the sound gets a little grating. It's fun initially, and maybe for short trips it's also giving you that old school feeling.. but it's not necessary for me on a future car.. I don't think I'd miss it on 991.2 GT3.

Regarding that R engine.. it needs a more impressive top-end rush. It just does.. top end is somewhat underwhelming. If this new racecar valvetrain on the .2gt3 is everything AP says it is from 6-9k rpm, then everyone will be thanking their lucky stars that the R engine was upgraded to a higher revving, lower friction unit.. even without the LWFW.

Best is yet to come.. as it always is with Porsche.

Thank you for all the feed back Alex. I'll now consider you my "cleaning lady".
How's the shifting in the R vs your Spyder?
