PTS and LWB's
#17
Not exactly PTS, but a small number of the small batch of 2016s were able to be ordered in Lava Orange late in the production run (IIRC October to December 2015 production). Most of these that I have seen were ordered with LWB. Curious if Loess has data on the numbers of LO cars?

'Lava Orange' as PTS
'Lava Orange' was a 'Special
Color' anyone could order on
a MY2016 991 gt3. And it was
priced as such...not the higher
PTS. To my knowledge, there
was NO Paint-to-Sample allowed
to be ordered in the .1 991 gt3
for MY2016 for any market.
Technically, 'Lava Orange'
(color code M2A) is available
as PTS on the Macan. It is
also curiously listed as PTS
for the 991/718 even though
it's a 'Special Color' currently
for some of those models in
their most basic forms.
***
But on the Limited Edition 911R model,
for example, color options are very much
restricted. In this case, to just two colors:
Here 'Lava Orange' was allowed to be
ordered by a small segment of the
R customers (along with 'Black' &
'Racing Yellow'). This was an attempt
by PAG to satisfy some demand for
more 'color' offerings on this model,
yet still restrict PTS to a select few.
I called it the 'faux' PTS option as
opposed to 'True' PTS (where you
can choose from 5 pages of approved
PTS colors, not just 3 hues!) And
in the R model, 'Lava Orange' was
priced as PTS for those that were
permitted to order it. So in this
model it's technically considered
a type of PTS.
So that explains why 'Lava Orange'
is listed as a 991 PTS on the current
'Approved PTS List' even though it's
available as a 'Special Color' on most
.2 991 models.

Nice detail, thank you Eduardo. I would only add that LO was not available for the full production run of the 2016 GT3s. I had a July build car but was denied, only those built after the summer break were able to choose LO. I recall if being October production and later but don't have confirmation of that. Personally I am glad I didn't get it, since 1) I find it to be too "pink" of an orange, and 2) I think the color looks better with some contrast that you get on the RS from the black bits.
Regardless, GT3s in LO are rare.

allocation for a '16 .1 991 gt3 in 'Lava Orange' which
he talked to me about as early as July of 2015. So
'Lava Orange' was known to be available for most
of the expected run of MY2016 gt3. Let's see if he
can recall when 'Lava Orange' was available on the
MY2016...but it's a small point. 'Lava Orange' was

Went back and checked my email to refresh my memory. This is what my dealer manager forwarded me from PCNA at the time.
"Unfortunately, Lava Orange is not available until September production and this is a June build. Porsche cannot move the production date."
Agree LO was not PTS.

Bronson7, I've previously looked into the 2015 PTS cars delivered in North America. I've just rechecked my records. Here's what I was able to find.
There were 10 cars built in 2015 that were PTS. 6 of these had LWB. Of the 5 Canadian 2015 PTS, 4 of 5 had LWB (including mine and H82BL8's car).
Of the 30 "extra" PTS cars, as Eduardo said, 2 were specced with LWB, one in Fashion grey and one in Arena red met.
So in total, I know of 8 PTS + LWB for 2015 in North America (I have no info on ROW). I don't think any 2014 or 2016 had these two in combination, but I could be wrong.

LO was a special color (and not PTS/paint to sample) for the GT3 in 2016. However, it was not available for the GT3 during the entire 2016 ordering period, but rather for a window in the middle (I do not remember the exact dates), which may explain why some folks mistakenly believe it was PTS.
