Does the 911 R drive more like a GT3 or GT3 RS?
This question has always been on my mind. Some of the reviews have made comments about how the 911 R drives in comparison to the GT3 RS, but I have yet to read a review about how the 911 R compares to the standard 991 GT3.
Looking at the specs, the 911 R should have very similar mechanical grip as the GT3, as its chassis is taken from the GT3 (same suspension components, same track width front and rear, same rims, and same tire widths).
The tuning of the suspension is supposed to be more "for the road than track", but I don't know whether that is in relation to the GT3 or the GT3 RS. We also know the rear wheel steering in the 911R has also been optimized for road driving, but again, is that in relation to the GT3 or GT3 RS?
Yes, the 911 R has the same powerplant as the GT3 RS, as well as more lightweight bodywork (carbon bonnet/fenders and magnesium roof) compared to the GT3.
I would love to hear the opinions of those who have had the privilege of driving the 911 R and GT3 and GT3 RS on road or track.
My guess is the following: the 911R drives/handles more like the GT3 as opposed to the GT3 RS. On the road, mechanical grip from the tires/chassis is more influential than any light weight bodywork or difference in downforce. On the track, my guess is the same.....the 911 R drives more like the GT3 than GT3 RS. The GT3 RS simply has more mechanical grip and downforce than both the 911 R and GT3.
What do others think? (obviously, the 911 R is a stickshift, while the GT3/GT3 RS are PDK, so let's not change this thread into a manual vs automatic debate). I'm asking about comparing the other aspects of driving.

Have an invitation to drive one but it won't arrive for a couple of weeks.
Between the 3 and RS there's some noise and suspension differences perceptible driven side-by-side but the reality is the biggest difference between the 3 and RS only really become apparent as you approach the limits.
I suspect the R will actually have a bigger gap in terms of feel on the road over both the 3 and RS than between the two. Less weight, LWFW, 4.0L, paired with lower rotating mass of 3 wheel/tire suggest it'll rev faster than both, although actual acceleration times will be slower than RS given manual. Less sound deadening means more glorious noise in the cabin. As for suspension, RWS, and steering, that remains to be experienced.

Had many miles on my 997GT3,GT4, just sold 2015 GT3, and now have '16 RS. Haven't driven an R but drove in one recently and was unimpressed. Besides the shiny metal plate I just don't get this car. It will be thoroughly non-important in 3 months after .2 GT3 is released. No offense to those that have the car.
