Well Porsche did do the same thing with the GTR, there is a rumored pic with three GT3's and a GTR captioned "there's always and ugly one in the bunch" or something along those lines.
A lot of manufacturers do this and Porsche does it as well. Some will even swap vehicles with each other. It can happen at multiple levels including engineering, product planning, and marketing.
As for the NSX, Honda says the GT3 is not the direct competitor. Of course, it is possible that they were evaluating the GT3 for a future NSX in early stage development.
I think the new NSX is a pretty cool car but cause it's so many years after the first one I feel like there's no soul to the new one. I just don't think I would replace any Porsches for it.
