My chronicles of driving without plates

I've taken my rear plate off the car and have it inside the car on the passenger floorboard. I've decided to see how viable it is to drive around sans license plates. I still kept my registration/inspection sticker on the windshield. I'm not yet ready to try taking that off.
Day 1
This morning I drove about a total of 7 miles around my sleepy little community. Once to the grocery store, and a couple other errands. Saw two cops, but one was travelling towards me and probably didn't turn around to see if my car happened to have plates on. Second cop was in a parking lot on my way home facing perpendicular to road I was travelling on. No idea if he was looking, buy my RADAR detector never went off so I doubt he was gunning people.
This afternoon, I had to run over to work (2.5 miles away), and while at a stoplight, a cop was directly behind me. As the light turned green, he lit me up. I pulled over, and he simply pulled next to me and motioned me to open my window. As I did, I held up my license plate and said It was just off for the moment. He politely just said, "please put it on, and have a nice day". No drama, no issues.
All in all, I think this will work out fine. Will keep y'all updated.

Really MARV?? Starting a new thread for this?? What's wrong with adding to your other one?? Getting a bit ridiculous here.
So day 1 you already got nipped. Not a good sign. Same cop sees you again, ticket $$ time.

You get to meet a lot of cops this way.

I get wanting to drive without a front plate; I've done so for years. It's ugly, ruins the lines of the car, requires drilling of holes unless you buy a special bracket, etc....
But the rear plate is tucked away at the back, carries the registration stickers, and on a Porsche, at least, covers the big hole for the tow hook which is ugly in itself. Most LEO's will overlook the front plate but will stop you for the rear plate because of the registration. Why anyone driving a GT3 would want to give an officer another reason to stop them is beyond me.

I really think it will be okay. Its not like the car isn't registered. The cop was totally cool about it. I live in a pretty small suburban community where people tend to know each other. Maybe as the cops get used to seeing me drive around plateless, it will become less of an issue.

FWIW Steve Jobs found a legal way to do this in CA by leasing a new car every 6 months. (Although I'm not sure you want people thinking that you think you're Steve Jobs.)
Seems like most on here are suggesting you may want to put the rear plate back on. And hopefully for you the police in your town don't read this forum much...

Ah, I missed that in your earlier post. Nevertheless, that hole sure is unsightly. Need to find something to cover it up. I was thinking about replacing the rear plate with a color coded blank.
