Default radar detector hard wire question

I'm in the process of hard wiring my radar detector and am having issues getting power. I'm trying to connect it to the overhead map light assembly. I have found a few instruction guides online but they all reference a yellow harness and the wires are different colored than mine. I assume this harness is where I'm tapping into. I'm using a hard wire kit.
Does anybody have any advice on this? It's a '16 GT3. Thanks

Use a voltmeter if you can. I know the brown is ground. I forget which one was power for me.

Use the voltmeter and find the wire that is switched on with the ignition. Otherwise you'll have to rember to switch the detector on and off. Nothing like looking in the rear view mirror and seeing flashing lights with your detector not powered up.

The problem you're experiencing is the main reason why I chose to hardwire my detector to the passenger side fuse box. I was able to easily locate and test a switched power source in the fuse box and was leery of tapping into the overhead wiring.

Sorry I can't help you with the your attempt to connect to the overhead light assembly, but if you get frustrated and decide to go a different route, here is a link to the installation guide for a V1 that I posted a couple of years ago for my 2014 GT3.

I installed mine exactly as Mike in CA describes. Very clean and easy. Works perfect

I agree it's the easiest and cleanest way to hardwire a detector

Did you ever figure out which wire to tap into? I am running into the same problem.

I really don’t remember all the details- it’s been a while and I’ve since sold the car. But, I did take the leads and plug them directly into the overhead lights and it worked great. I had the lead kit for my detector which gave me red and black wire taps. If you could take a pic of the overhead light wire options I remember what I did.

I ordered these two parts. I used to use the invisicord and do the tapping thing probably about 6times on other cars. I found hunting for the switched power is sort of a pain so I started going this route.

Lower left open fuse location is switched so that was perfect. Took about 10 min to run the wire up to the detector. Hope this helps.

I plug the red lead into blue and black into yellow. When I turned the V1 on, the headlights turned on. Can you tell me which power source you plug the leads into? Thanks!

I think I plugged my leads into the 2nd picture. Black into black but I forget which I plugged the red into.
