oh i'm not concerned with the cost of the consumables.
i was asking more to the point of...why 'waste' an expensive tire if i can't get the full potential out of it anyway. meaning... if i can only drive 5/10 my first year... what's the point of having a 10/10 tire.
NOW... i have since learned that i shouldn't necessarily look at it like that.
so... I went with the Cup2's.
thanks all.

If your concern is not to "waste" an expensive tire, then how can it be anything but a "financial/budget" question?
In other words, if the Cup2s and a similar sized, non-premium tire (say, Cooper Tire) were both free, which would you choose?
At some point, just be honest about it.

Um, for the record, that's not what I'm advocating for people who are new to the track. If a GT3 will be your first track car, plan to start slow and focus on technique and awareness, avoid unnecessarily risky high top speed on straights, build pace incrementally as skill develops, and do all of this with the guidance of good instructors.
If one of my students made the kind of statements in the above quote, we'd be having a serious talk before going on track, and would be pitting in early if the student refused to listen. Driving on track involves risks which need to be managed carefully. Cars can get banged up beyond repair, as can the people in them.

What you've said is inherently contradictory.

I'm done with posting questions. Shocked at some of the people on this board.
