The only 2 people I've seen not complain about the app is ipse dixit and nur93. Whatever those 2 are doing is what you need to find out.

 

My big issue with the app is that it randomly decides that I'm not near the racetrack.
It continuously tells me that I should select a racetrack nearby but although the track is selected it won't detect that I'm near it and won't let me start the session.

 

Yeah, no kidding! It's very weird that for a couple of people, it works fine. Honestly, it's so bad that it gives me some hope that Porsche knows about the problems and will fix them.

 

What phone / OS combination are you using? I'm wondering if there's a connection.

 

Hey, I wish I even *had* brake pressure! Apparently, the 981 Cayman's don't provide that data via OBD. It's one of the reasons I was hoping to get Porsche's app to work but I think I'm headed towards an AiM or Vbox solution...

 

Odd. I assume the data is still present on the CAN bus.

 

I'm using the Android app and tried several different phones (Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Moto X, Samsung S4) and both external GPS receiver and internal GPS. Just can't get it to work.
If I switch to Harry's Laptimer or RaceChrono on the same phone it works like a charm.

Looking through some older threads, it seems that the two people it's working for - ipse dixit and Nur93 - are both using the iPhone 6. I've got an iPhone 6 so I'll try that out.

Is anyone *with* an iPhone 6 having problems?

 

I'm using an iPhone 6S and having problems. I also had app issues with an iPhone 6, but that was an older app version.

 

I have had the deleting problem with the iPhone 6 as well, even with 32 GB available storage. Seems random to me -- frustrating to lose data. Wish I knew what ipse dixit and nur93 know that I don't -- it is very easy to setup and use, less effort that the AIM Solo and SmartyCam which has been very reliable for me.

 

Do you recall if there's a way to duplicate the session delete problem? Or something that's more likely to make it happen? I think I had a session delete a long time after (i.e., hours) after I was done driving but I don't remember what I was doing.

 

What phone OS version did you try it with? What version of the Porsche app?

 

To everyone with issues, please take a minute to leave an App Store review. This is likely the only way to get through to Porsche in hopes of them trying to fix it.

 

Maybe Porsche could buy the rights to the one in the C7. My friend has one and it works like a charm. Plus he has great front and rear cameras.
