OT- Mission E Type to go into production
I wasn't sure what the VW mother ship would do with the E-type given the recent dieselgate, but Porsche just announced the Mission E type will definitely go into production, and Porsche will build new facilities and hire 1,000 employees just to make this happen.
An electric car made by a true sports car company will be cool to see and experience
Maybe I'll hold off on my planned Tesla Model S purchase before I see the final specs of the actual production Mission E type.

The Mission E is such a gorgeous car, I really hope they don't deviate much from the concept. I also hope they keep the clamshell door configuration. I have a Toyota FJ Cruiser as my daily driver and personally, I love the clamshell door configuration. It's just so different and cool.

I would take this over a Telsa any day!!
I am glad the day has come where the big car manufacturers have finally set their sights on this market as Tesla has been essentially playing in this market by themselves for the past few years and I can't get myself to buy one as the Tesla is so ugly.
Porsche is going to sell out quickly when they release this car hopefully sooner than later.

I'll order mine once Porsche discloses and delivers on an actual charging network infrastructure. In the mean time I'll enjoy my Model S and be able to charge it on most road trips.
given the time line - I would say one could safely order a P90D w/Ludicrous mode - and drive for at least 3 years before the porsche comes to market and much longer until Porsche has matched Tesla's supercharger network - http://supercharge.info/ - with out an actual deployed charging network faster charging is of little value…
and with 2.8 sec 0-60 times there is literally only like 8 production cars in the world "faster" - and none of them are 4 door sedan costco machines - and all of them are an order of magnitude more expensive than a Tesla Model S - Lease a Tesla for 3 years, then take delivery of the Porsche - be happy.
looking forward to increased competition in the EV space. Tesla is pretty good but they could use some alternatives to force them to grow up as a company.

I have been anticipating this since it was mentioned last year.
I would be a buyer when they are launched. Would make for a nice daily driver with a aircooled 911 along side of it in the garage.

EV's are EXCELLENT daily drivers - especially when you get a Car Pool sticker in certain states and can use the high occupancy lanes on freeways and on ramps.
furthering their daily driver credentials is also nearly the lack of any meaningful maintenance costs - I only take my EV in for annual inspections ($75) and tires, wipers. With regenerative braking even the brakes last long enough that maintenance is virtually nonexistent.
I'm very very excited to see/touch Porsche's offering and hope it's as good as their other cars.

Good points. I am still thinking about getting a Tesla Model S as a daily driver, while I wait for the Porsche E type. Also I'm a little worried about how much Porsche will eventually charge for for the E type. I hear all kind of estimates from 140K- to 270K.
Having access to carpool lanes is a huge advantage to owning an electric car for commuting in California. I just moved to LA, and I'm adjusting to traffic out here
The supercharging network is important for many Tesla owners, but not me. I don't plan to ever use it, as honestly I have better things to do with my time than wait for my car to charge.
If I need to take a trip longer than 300 miles, then I'll just drive my GT3, which I would keep as my weekend/fun car/ track car/long trip car, anyway.
