Because the Main difference between 997 and 991
was the so called Mezger which turned to be fake by Mezger himself clarification
* They laughed saying Hans Mezger himself found it perplexing.
* Hans Mezger was so embarrassed about the term
^Finally from the Dr Mezger the final word on that BS
So which difference remain
the less motorsport 996 997 perfomance chassis and suspensions?
dont tell me MT involvment for B roads BC RS has never been built for B roads

Condor Man, not in the market for either at this time. I'm very happy at the present with my 991 gt3. If I was in the market, I would probably do as you stated, just buy both.

The 997 GT2RS had 612 hp – rear wheel drive only. Ask yourself this: How much power can the 991 chassis fully utilize? Can the 991 chassis in RWD configuration get as much or more power to the ground? In other words, the 991 can probably handle just about any 3.8 – 4.4L Flat-6 NA engine. Less than the turbo’d 3.8 in the 997 GT2. So…we’re good.
Maybe Porsche’s strategy goes something like this:
They don’t try to compete with the mid-engine rivals from Ferrari & McLaren with the 911. The 911 & Cayman lie in the “enthusiast” super-sports car category priced in the $100-250K price range.
They introduce the 960/988. Derivative of 918’s chassis. Mid-engine, quad-turbo Flat-8, or twin-turbo V8 (918’s ICE?) who knows, all bets are off on the powertrain. Aka “cheaper 918” and less complex without the electric motors & batteries. RWD maybe?
The 911 stays the pure focused track-day “driver’s car” offered in NA, Turbo & hybrid configs; and the 960/988 plays with the big dogs from Ferrari & McLaren (and the Ford GT) in a price bracket above any 911. The 488 is already in the mid $300’s with a few options, and the P14 (12C, 650S, 675LT replacement) is rumored to start with a “4” in it’s MSRP just like the Ford GT.
Just a thought… Should I sell the business & go work for Porsche?

I wish Porsche were somehow able to dust off the 964 chassis and offer it as an option/special edition whatever. Ala Singer- 2500lbs, 400HP, MT, CF body……people are paying $400k plus for these things. If Porsche could replicate that for say $200k I guarantee they would sell a boat load.
