Running a 991 GT3 &/or GT3RS on Snow and Ice
Hum, looks like Porsche may have offer an opportunity to spend a day running a GT3 and/or a GT3RS on nothing but snow and ice at the Porsche Driving Experience IceForce program in January. The other choice would be the "normal" AWD 991 Turbos. I'm tempted.
Has anyone else tried, or have any feed back on running their GT3 on snow & ice? I did a bit of this in a specially setup Cayman GTS last January on a "special" four square (all tires the same size) studded tire setup provided by PDE. I assume the GT3 would get something similar by way of studded tires too.
The AWD platform would be more of a known commodity, but the rear wheel drive only GT3 version sounds like a lot of potential fun. mlp

I've always wanted to do it. With the right tires and environment (as would be the case here), it would be a blast. More fun with a manual but I would expect to be impressed with what they can do with proper rubber.

useless, a C2 would be the same if not better go for AWD is more fun
991 AWD has nothing to do with others AWD
is always first rear traction and only if and only
(sometime too) later AWD

Hardly useless, just requires more smooth and slow throttle application. AWD just lets you be lazy and allow the car to sort it out for you. I drive all my cars during winter and prefer being in a RWD car as it is more engaging.
PS: Which one looks more fun?

Go for it, a lot of fun driving on ice. Doesn't matter if you have 300hp or 500hp. Hard to get power into the ground.
We used to drive with rallye tires on ice, 800 studs in each tire. Instead of a normal winter tire with les than 100. Felt very similar to gravel.
Sign up and go and have fun.

I haven't registered for it, . . . . OnSite hasn't been able to located another set of tires, and I may have another obligation over at least part of that weekend. Looking forward to Finland - I figuratively bit the PDE bullet and opted for the additional "private" training day with the GT3/GT3RS. I'll be interesting to see which of the two cars shows up; and more importantly just how aggressively studded the tires provided with the car will be.
