The other issue I had was with turbo lag. It eventually bothered me.
Don't get me wrong, the car is phenomenal and I am not putting it down. It is a great exotic to own. I am very glad I did. Notice I did not mention anything about depreciation because I purchased used (800 miles) at the right time and I don't really care tons about depreciation because I drive my cars. I just didn't want the $60-100k hit on new.
Very glad I owned one. Fine piece of machinery and technology. The limp mode and lack of emotion compared to Ferrari and Lamborghini was why I traded mine.
Congrats on the car! It is beautiful and you will love it.

The McLaren was a fun car. Looked great. Cool cruising around town and mine was extremely reliable. My BIG issue was overheating at the track. It was NOT my track car but I refused to own a car that would go into limp mode at the track when it was hot outside. That goes against the principle of McLaren being a race company. It gets hot here in Dallas (>100F) and I have NEVER had one overheating issue with any GT3/RS or with my Lamborghini Huracan.

Congrats on the new ride.
At the track last weekend someone was running a 12C GT3, car was solid in the 40 minute sessions we were running every hour. I spent some time the mechanic that maintains it - apparently it's very similar to the road car like the GT3 and GT3 Cup, but the big difference that jumped out at me is where the frunk would normally be is occupied by additional cooling.
Perhaps you can purchase it aftermarket and turn the 12C/650S into a more reliable track toy?

FWIW after 3 track days in my P1 I had zero issues other than wheelspin as putting down 900hp RWD requires a lot of care. My last track day was open running and no time restrictions- I went through 2 full tanks of gas and did about 7 total sessions between 20-50 mins at Willow Springs.
I think the cars have consistently improved from the 2012 12C to the 2014- 12c to the 650 and the P1 and now the 675LT which I will be tracking around Oct 15.
As a DD I think the 650 is an entire league above the 458 (not too many guys have 488s yet) but as I have said in other threads the Huracan is legit. Between the 650 and Huracan it just depends on if you want doors that go up or AWD.
Both come in green, orange, yellow, black and look fantastic. For similar price + a little extra to a Turbo S (daily driver) or audi R8 v10 (i'd be sad if they gave me an A4 loaner so avoiding audi) the 650 would be my choice.

Hmmm... if it overheats on the track, I will be bummed. I had a 981CS that would see 276 degrees after 3 hot laps at ECR, and start short shifting. Neither local dealer could find any issue with the car or suggest a cure. I ended up hating that car. The highest temp I've seen on my GT3 is 235.
FWIW, as part of my pre-purchase due dilligence, I "tested" 2 different 650S cars on MSR's 1.7 and neither showed any sign of heating issues. They weren't my cars, nor was I comfortably familiar with them, so I'm sure with regular use they could see far harsher conditions. In any case, I'm looking forward to the testing process. If it fails, it'll be unacceptable... inexcusable... and you just might see it in the classifieds as a "lightly used, seldom overheated, 650S". :-) It might just work for me though. For one, I'm just not that fast. I used to use a sundial as a lap timer. For another, if it starts getting hot out, I start looking for air conditioning. I'm an old Colorado boy... I just can't take these hot TX summers like some of you can.

Bob, I have had my 650s on the track twice. Both times in high temps. Only issue I had was grip, the stock 235 Corsa fronts are inadequate. the 305 rears are marginal. I can't get a strait answer if there are any fitment issues with larger tires. Guess I just have to try some. probably Trofeo R's. Best, Allan

My 12C does OK at MSR and has never gone into a "limp" mode. That said, I've seen temps I was not happy with and do short shift after a few laps. Totally stock with Pzeros it would run about 1:21 on MSR 1.7 CCW. With Trofeo R but still notalignment to add camber it does 2:25 at COTA but have not tried it at MSR yet. The GT3 is more robust on track in terms of fluid temps, but it's also down nearly 150 hp. On the street the 12C is vastly superior.

I concur with everything kyrocks posted. I had overheating issues every time I tracked the 12C. Yes it was hot outside. Primary issue was tranny overheating. Improved in later McLaren models supposedly. Also an aftermarket cooling solution is available, I'm told.

Why is everyone complaining about overheating in the 12C when the OP purchased a 650S? Different cars, different aero.
Are there overheating issues with the 650S? I haven't heard of any...but I also never looked.
