If you are expecting corolla-like quality and durability.....you have bought the wrong vehicle. I can't think of a high performance vehicle that has not had some sort of issue. The true test will be how Porsche handles this with Customers. So far, I have been treated well, so I'm not worried.
To be fair, some of the components that failed on the Mezger cars were components that differed from the race cars, and/or parts that fail only after years of chronological time (race motors get rebuilt on short intervals). I don't consider it a controversial idea that there is value to torture testing an engine on track prior to use in road cars, particularly for road cars that lots of owners will be thrashing on track, although it certainly isn't the only recipe for a good result.

the 991 gt3 is being raced in the nurburgring regularly, and in PSC Germany. So the engine is being raced just not by the works team

As for the 997.2 RS, it wasn't Porsche who raced it. It was a Swedish Porsche dealership. Not a works effort - very much a private affair.

The 991RS engine is going into the new 991-GT3-R. I think first race may be Dubai 24h, which is not an easy race for engines by any means. So lets see.

FWIW:

A swedish dealership have done something very similar but Porsche together with Sport Auto did it too:

"In a partnership between Porsche and German magazine Sport Auto, racing drivers Roland Asch and Patrick Simon were joined by writers Chris Harris and Horst von Saurma behind the wheel of the car."

Really? Care to show us a link to a 24 hour enduro that they've competed a 991 GT road car in against race cars? Because that's what we're talking about, not some local club race or 15 lap sprint... Plenty of Subarus and BMWs lapping the ring too...

ps. It was the factory that did the NBR24 as another member has already pointed out...

Default RS engine failure

The PR dept. monitors all sorts of these things. All these companies have people monitoring online and social media coverage. I'm sure Rennlist is one of them.

Make a copy of any videos next time. They have a habit of disappearing.

Nobody knows the issue here. Having videos floating around having people "assume" this or that isn't good PR either. Obviously their track record with the engines isn't flawless either

My assumption as well but they're not using 991 GT3 motor. Still running prior gen Mezger lump.

Sorry guys but not the new motor. And 2016 Cup is already confirmed to use the "old" motor again.

2016 GT3R is coming with a new powerplant and we await a closer examination to judge similarity to the street motor, not to mention results.....

The only folks running MA1s in motorsports (at least in the states) are Caymans....so ironically the Cayman GTS has more motorsports ties to its chassis and motor than the GT3 does right now. In time that will change and hopefully we'll see GT3 road-car and race car ties once again.
