RS engine failure

Sort of off-topic but it just burns my gut that Porsche and Porsche dealers have this attitude of your just lucky to get a GT car even if it's 25K over and then the cars have issues like this. I can't imagine burning down my new RS. They are very lucky they have this kind of brand loyalty. They are however not helping themselves.

There were no shortage of issues with the Mezger engines, and they raced the living hell out of those motors. I'm talking stupid **** like a lose bolt on an intake flap detonating motors, bolts backing out on timing actuators, coolant lines, weak clutches.....
If you are expecting corolla-like quality and durability.....you have bought the wrong vehicle. I can't think of a high performance vehicle that has not had some sort of issue. The true test will be how Porsche handles this with Customers. So far, I have been treated well, so I'm not worried.

Every car has issues. It is how they handle them that separates the men from the boys.

Not looking to start a 991 vs Mezger argument. As you rightfully point out SnB, the Mezger had it's fair share of issues particularly in the RS format. You owned one, I own one and I accept it short comings but by the same token have managed 35k kms (10-15k on track) without a failure to date. Having paid my $315k, I would be far from happy being on my second or third engine and approaching end of warranty in a car designed for track duty. I would not want to rely on a company's goodwill to keep me on the road and no company is going to be burning dollars looking after customers outside of warranty regardless of their position now to save face.
Mind you ,Porsche took a 997 RS off the showroom floor and completed a NBR 24 hour with the car running mid pack against a class of Cup cars. That kind of achievement speaks volumes in anyone's book regardless of shortcomings like those you described as none of us could inflict the kind of punishment on the car that those four pro drivers did for 24 continuous hours!

997.2 rs engine have issues too. Depend how you use the car. I know 3 .2 rs used hard on track got engines replaced. People are trend to drive cars harder now days. Especially when you have a 991 gt3 rs.

That's the level of quality and reliability I'd want from all future GT cars or they may as well be another Carrera variant...

Exactly SnB! They believed in their product and put their reputation where their mouth is for marketing... Whilst no car is foolproof and free of issues, for those of us who buy and regularly track our cars there was a level of comfort from seeing our production car mix it with the big boys in such an unforgiving environment, breaking every rule in the owners manual and survive...
