Can someone summarize the specific differences in the engines and the transmission/gearing between the two?

The gearing in the RS is slightly lower (by way of R&P) in order to adjust for the larger 21" rear wheels. The net change is a very slightly taller effective gearing in the RS (which also compensates for the slightly lower redline in the RS).

There's also about $100k of unobtainium in that engine/tranny too.

Some say (well AP did) that the crank in the RS uses the same steel from 919 Hybrid. I wonder if it's the same as the GT3. I get conflicting reports. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same, and Porsche announced that on the launch of the RS to further justify the crazy hike in price (yay for marketing!).

I find it amusing that the GT3 is not using this strong crank and revs to 9K,yet the RS is,but it's only revving to 8600...
