Great news about his pet. Can't imagine how I would feel if anything happened to my little guy.

John - that's amazing news re their pet. I know they were both very attached to it.

Do you know how they are getting to Vanuatu? They must be in one of the relief flights? Hopefully Macca's family can get out on the NZ Airforce flight that's heading up today - they said they would be using it to evacuate NZ citizens.

Macca - hang in there mate. Every piece of news we get is revealing just how devastating this has been. The country will need a lot of help for quite some time. We're all thinking of you.

Peter, things do seem better than feared, particularly re people and animals.

Here are more pics on a public Facebook folder https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...6966504&type=1

Macca is trying for a commercial flight. The pic I saw of an Australian plane in Vila showed a remarkably clear runway so maybe they will get there today or tomorrow.

Damage to Macca's properties seem to be roofs and water damage.

All the best to Macca and family. Question is what kind of pet and what's its name. As someone said, they become one of the family. I have three and one is an outdoor cat which I have little involvement with but still fear and watch out for him.

Macca, that's great news on the pet. I hope things continue to be better than initially feared, and wish you strength and luck with the rebuilding.

I believe it's an elderly Siamese cat in its early teens.

It's a big decision to take an animal into the Pacific as often it's a one way trip given the NZ focus on preventing animal diseases means repatriation is very difficult. I know as we took a NZ born Burmese cat to Fiji and Indonesia, then repatriated it to NZ.

Unbelievable how bad the islands were hit but looks like shelters help human loss. All the best for the the islanders. Seems like the nicest people live here. So sad to see the destruction.

You read through a chain like this and realize that the "pain" you're going through waiting for a lump of metal and plastic to arrive from Germany is a little pathetic compared to what has just happened in the Pacific.
So glad to hear that Macca and family are ok - thoughts and prayers going out to everyone on the island.
