I do not disagree with Montoya's thought process. Barring nothing goes wrong(engine fire ); I think Porsche will just about make a car for everyone that wants one. I think they want to make up for the losses they incurred on the 991 GT3. I would not panic and pay a $.01 over MRSP. Be patient and stay on top of your Dealer and in like 6-9 months you will get that phone call that they found one.

But - I do not think Speculators are going to buy this - they will wait for the limited production run of some sort of "special-edition" release of this model. I also think that with the 8800 redline, price tag, and not such a big performance jump over the GT3 that do not get caught up in that there is no way you are going to get one. Now, saying all this; I am thinking real hard about possibly getting one after the fact that I conveyed I would not. Still waiting for some driving reviews.

Now - the GT4 is going to sell "big time" because it is a tremendous value for its price tag. Lets not kid ourselves ; for a GT car it will be a steal. But - the first driving reviews are out and you can google it. It was just like Macca said it would that the drive is really harsh but still a very raw experience. After a few more reviews like this some may drop off list

If the model is a limited edition with a fixed number of units then supply is limited by that number. If the limitation is production capacity over a given period of time then limited availability becomes a far more vague notion. Production of the RS is now reported to be slated into 2016 w/ the UV color not available until 11/15. I seriously doubt the GT4 will be impossible to get once production gets up and running and the first frothing allocations don't nearly fill the production capacity. Dealers want hype and buyer anxiety over missing out on the car which makes them lots of money. We buy the cars from them, not Porsche.

I don't think it would make sense for them to not sell as many as they can. If they came out with a .2 in two years, they would still have a long line of people wanting to trade up regardless of how many RS .1s they made.

When Porsche comes out with a new model like the original 996 GT3 or this RS, I can't help but think about Enzo Ferrari's belief that the Ferrari should always produce one less car than the market demands.

My experience with Porsche is that for most models they produce one more car than the market demands. In our little corner here in the Pacific Northwest, the additional allocations of the 991 GT3 seemed to satisfy everyone's needs.

Who else remembers when Porsche said the 996 Turbo was going to be super limited in production?

Pretty interesting hypothesis. Difficult to get into my head that Porsche will produce as many cars as the market demands, especially at about $200K apiece. Should they produce for stock rather than on buildable allocations the market will see pricing pressure and a retrenchment of production. Maybe one good reason to not pay a penny over MSRP. Also given unlimited production car will most likely not be aggressively pursued by collectors/speculators. I tend to think the 8800 RPM redline (rightfully or not) as well as what at first blush could be seen as "marginal" improvements over the GT3 could diminish the appeal to many folks.

Am I the only one who does not give a sheet about the 8800 vs 9000 redline? Power drops off after 8250 so what's the big deal?

I have heard the official number of US allocations for the GT3RS, and it is SIGNIFICANTLY less than the 1200+ you are expecting.

There are no official limited allocation quantities.

The GT3RS would accelerate faster if it could get to 9000 RPM. You shift to maximize total area under the power curve, you don't shift at the peak power point.

Can you let us know what that figure is? We would be very interested to know.

Check out the sixth post of this thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3/...tions-yet.html

The letter seems to infer that RS production will be limited to a given number. Whether that will get us to the 1200 US units or not I have no idea but appears to put a cap on the notion of an open number of cars as required by the market. Maybe I am reading too much into it. Reactions?
