I will bet they will send out initial allocations - and then - if demand looks strong; all of a sudden more allocations will pop up - I bet when said and done about 1200 will be built for the US.

I would wait for PTS if I already have a GT3 that I would be trading.

Regarding market demand for a "unique" $200k model, I still think Porsche cleverly fills a price void at least until McLaren comes out with its Porsche competitor. The $100k is somewhat dominated by the Z06 and the $240k+ is entering the Prancing Horse and Raging Bull territories. The GT3 and RS categories are aligned with the R8 and AMG GT? In this case, Porsche has more of its recognition and heritage that sway loyal customers and invite new ones in. The danger IMO comes with limiting numbers and options whereas Audi & Merc aren't seeming to do so at this price point. Is it enough to alienate buyers, that's up to the market to figure out.

9000RPM vs. 8800 is like batting .299 vs. .300 not much of a numerical difference but a great psychological differentiator. I guess it's the way a lot of humans are wired.

Add a little more! We are at 1600 now for US, so probably be at 1700-1750 by end of delivery?

750 RS in first allocation is a lot! Porsche has great confidence in this car.

What I find interesting though; do you think there will ever be a NA Six cylinder 9000 rpm redline engine from Porsche again??. If they come out with a 991.2 GT3 - will it be 8800??

I agree it is just psychological but it may be very unique looking back in 5 years

How many cars in the past 20 years with 6 cylinders (either inline or otherwise) have had a 9000 redline?

The 458 had a 9000 redline but that was a V8, and the RX-8 as well but that was rotary.

Of course you have super cars like the LFA and LaFerrari.

Any others?

I agree with you. Some are saying 9000 RPM so what. Down the line many will come to realize that it was the first and maybe the last Porsche to get to that level. If so it may make the car a great collectible. The way automotive industry is going we will see FI motors all over, hybrids and then electrics. The IC motor as we know it, is maybe getting to an end. Not bad to own what could be one of the last great examples of the NA class.

OTOH I would not be surprised to see the 991.2 GT3 exceed either 9000 or get to like 485-490 hp. That is assuming that it wil be NA. I would think the marketing folk will demand a bump in power or some objectively verifiable spec exceed the 991.1. THat does not diminish the fact that 991.1 was the first to 9000. Small details like this are what differentiates between the ordinary and the desirable.

Back in 2000 the Honda S2000 had a 4 cylinder rpm at 9000, making 240 hp I believe.

Right around that time someone passed me going at least 120 mph on the garden state parkway in NJ. I was impressed for a rice burner...

I believe first production car to reliably run to 9000 rpm, the second generation (with more power) only went to around 8500. I never sold mine as it wasn't worth much to sell, but a blast to drive, if you keep the revs up its fun and relatively easy to drive 8-9/10ths. 2.0 liter/240 hp, at the time the highest output per liter. It was a great first intro sports car, learning how to properly shift, heel/toe, rev matching downshifts, ect…….Sometimes its nice to be able to ring out a car 100% vs. having to hold back….I can never use anything more than 3rd on the gt2 without getting into huge trouble.

I had a second gen s2000. From my recollection:
Gen. 1: 2.0L, 240hp, 9000 rpm
Gen. 2: 2.2L, 240hp but with more torque, 8000 rpm

I was told by a smaller P dealer that 4 RS's were allocated today to dealers in US. Is this a joke? Why can't they just come out with allocations already?
