Default Detlan Battery Tender Plus

Can a Detlan Battery Tender Plus be used for winter storage of the GT3, I have several that are used for other various cars and motorcycles and would prefer to not have to purchase another unless necessary.

A battery is a battery- will work fine, just make sure to hook it in properly.

Google is a useful way to find this info. I did a quick search and found the following on the Deltran web site.
The Battery Tender has an absorption charge mode, but the the Battery Tender Plus has a different absorption mode maximum charge voltage and a timer to hold the absorption voltage longer. These specific changes were made to accommodate the charging requirements of Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) style lead acid batteries.

The GT3 has a AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery in it, so I would use a smart charger to mantain the battery. Look at the CTEK charges they have the modes for the AGM batteries or check with Detran to see what they say.

Battery Tender Plus was created for this reason. It is fine. I called company when my car arrived, and they assured me of that.

I currently use it on my GT3 and any vehicle with a battery, I have about 15. Never had a problem. Have run over them, dropped them and they still perform. Have ctek's too, but prefer the BT plus. Great customer service also.

Just confirmed it again in the FAQ section on their website, Battery Tender Plus was made to be used with AGM batteries, which is what we have in the 991 GT3

Just an FYI...

Deltran now has new "high efficiency" versions of their Plus and Jr (less heat loss to meet California regulations). Not sure about the old Jr., but the new one has the same four-mode charging and is AGM and Gel compatible as the Plus. The only advantage of the new Plus over the new Jr. is a higher bulk charge rate (1.25A vs. 750mA). Irrelevant if you are using it as a maintainer.

They still seem to be selling the old versions along side the new versions. Make sure you check which one you are ordering... Amazon has the new high efficiency Jr. for
$28 shipped. $28 shipped.

Old Jr.

New Jr.

I connected BT Plus yesterday through smoking package connection, initially it showed red as it should for charging, then in several minutes it switched to flashing red which indicates incorrect connection. Still at a loss and will make some calls today.

Use the outlet on passenger side, in footwell. Open both doors, plug in passenger side close door, and close driver door last.
