straight line speed is cheap and readily accessible these days

handling/dynamics/sporty feel are at a premium in this time of overly complicated, overly featured, grossly heavy cars

ironically the appeal of hybrids for apparent fuel economy gains add to the problem of ever higher mass given the need for heavy batteries and powerful electric motors

this nsx may look nice from some angles, it may accelerate well, it may even stop well, and they will sell well since the price is not that high for a purported supercar, there is a lot of indiscriminate fast money around, and there are plenty of fanboys and girls who don't see its faults

but its not for me (and i have 2 original NSX's stockpiled)... Honda has lost its way as much as BMW, sad to say...

The i8 is not a performance car, didn't you see the tires? I like it and I think BMW released a car that has that cool prototype look that never makes it into production but it's in a totally different league. I've heard a lot of complains about cornering too.
The NSX is going to be a game changer and all manufacturers will follow, this technology was available only on hypercars. But I agree with you that we were all expecting $15-$20k less than what Acura demanded.
Agreed that the i8 is not marketed or designed as a performance sports car in the same fashion as the NSX, but that said, I would still prefer the i8 over the NSX if I was in the market for a sub-200k performance sports car.

That's how I feel about the NSX vis-a-vis the i8.

Randy Pobst did a Laguna test with the optional R compound tires. If you have a MotorTrend subscription, you can watch it on a head to head with a 2017 GTR (non nismo).

NSX laptime: 1:36.6

It's a slow car all said and done. Curb weight was 3,876 lbs.

I guess I should chime in. I got my nsx a few weeks ago and have put on a couple hundred miles. I realized a while ago, its not about the "fastest" cars anymore. I've had a huracan, 911 turbo s, gt3, 458, gt3rs, and currently have the nsx and 488. The 488 has to be one of the fastest cars and rides great. Torque is insane, especially compared to the 458. The nsx is not as fast, but I like the way it looks, sounds pretty good, and the technology is cool. Do I think it's a 200k car? Not really. Lot of better options out there. The nsx drives well, its fast, fun around turns as the hybrid motors help with no lag like traditional motors.

As these cars get faster and faster, I think people need to look for the reason of why they are buying the car. Do they just want to be the fastest? Is it going to be tracked? Is it just a sunday driver? Is it just for show?

The nsx would be a very nice daily driver that someone could track.

I'm in VA. Ordered in early March and received it a little over 2 weeks ago.

I'm waiting for my NSX (ordered late March) and I currently have a '16 GT3, I think it's normal to look at the numbers and try to compare cars based on 0-60/quarter miles or weight but I don't see it that way. Look at the launch control function between Nissan and Porsche, they are both under 3 seconds but one of the two will fail and break. So who cares if the GTR can do a 0-60 in 2.9 seconds if the transmission is getting trashed? That's why I'm hesitant to buy a Ferrari, the 488 it's their best looking car in the past 20 years in my opinion but I don't want to deal with poor craftsmanship.

Many Gen 1 NSX in the past.....been eagerly awaiting instrumented reviews.

Still unable to get my head around the $200K pricing (optioned up to equal the competitor's standard stuff).

Nice color & congrats!

Saw this in NYC today and thought it was a good combo together for comparison sake.

Silly valley dealers (*cough* Stevens Creek Acura) asking for silly money to the tune of +$50k "market adjustment" on top of a loaded car with all the carbon bits. Pretty car, though.

There might be some dealer in SoCal asking MSRP, but I haven't looked in a while.
