I am fairly confident that your weight delta is suspect; the Speciale doesn't lose 500-600 lbs vs. a standard 458.
For everyone who says OMG the GT3 is a bargain, the new ZO6 will almost certainly shade them both in every area. Fortunately there is a market for all 3 cars!

I agree the GT3 is more pinned down to the road. Which is so rewarding and reassuring when attacking the twisty bits.
I just hope that RS feels faster in a straight line through the extra power and less weight as the stock GT3 does feel quite a bit slower than even the stock 458.

Reviewing cars and getting lap times based on driving them on wet tracks seems of limited value to me.

As with all the other reviews (i.e. Autocar, etc.), just comparing the GT3 to the 458 (either Italia or Speciale) is a testament, and a tribute, to the overall prowess and capabilities of the GT3.
Just putting the two cars side-by-side is a victory for the GT3, regardless of the outcome of the actual comparison.
For a car that costs, what?, a 1/3 of the Ferrari (depending on the exchange rates and what country you reside in), how can the Ferrari not outperform the Porsche.
P.S. Curious why automotive hacks and Youtube journalists don't put up the TTS against the Speciale on a track ...

(Leeds: UK. November 2014). Customers are going to extraordinary lengths to buy the Ferrari 458 Speciale, luxury car finance specialist, Magnitude Finance, reveals.
Earmarked as a potential collector's item, some prospective buyers have been told a £20,000 deposit would only put them on a list of 'possible clients' but not guarantee an order.
With production of the V8 458 expected to end in March, others have been informed they are unlikely to receive one now unless they choose a very high number of optional extras that would push other customers off the waiting list.
Director of Magnitude Finance, Tim Marlow, said: "One client ordered the car many months ago but he was subsequently advised to increase the options he selected to guarantee delivery simply because others are prepared to go pay over the odds to get one new.
"We have another client who has successfully secured the car using our finance and he said between placing his deposit and the balance, the agent he bought it from contacted him on five occasions to say others wanted to buy it if he changed his mind."
Magnitude Finance says demand is so high because it is the last naturally aspirated V8 458 to be made, contributing to it being seen as a future classic.
Being the first owner is the appeal among Magnitude Finance's high net worth clientele.
"With approximately 200 coming to the UK, it is seen as being a potential collector's item," adds Mr Marlow.
"Everyone we speak to sees this as the next appreciating model over the long-term like the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia 16M before it so demand is really high.

The ferrari has all the advantages, and every reason to win this test on paper..
Once again, it's amazing how the gt3 can even get close to it and it's funny how chris harris and the bunch find it to be such a good rival to the speciale where on paper it seems like it should be a no match..

I still think it's a great looking car, but given the choice between a 458S and a GT3 RS + dedicated track car, I picked the latter.

GM has serious overheating issues with the Z06, esp. in 8AT guise.
Randy Pobst who test drove the Z06 at Road Atlanta for Road and Track had his test mule overheat and clonk out after 4 laps. He was in an 8AT.

A few things about Ferrari credibility:
(1) Weights are always reported "dry" (ie, no fluids at all)
(2) Weights are usually very optimistic (a 458 is in reality a ~3,300-3400 lb. car give or take)

Interesting how we rarely hear ab this. So you're thinking that a dedicated track machine like the new z06 hasn't been tested in track conditions and is liable to overheat after just a few laps? Wouldn't this be a massive scandal and loss of credibility if widely publicized? Is this a one-off, or do all z06 last only a few laps?
