Roads will be pretty testy during the winter. Like others said June/July/August is the best time doing that drive. Mike

Default several more recommendations

Here are several more recommendations.
- Of course, if you will be in cold weather be sure to drive on winter tires.
- I'd suggest you reverse your route, so that your trip on the coast highways will be southbound. Your car will then be on the coastal side of the highway, easier to see the spectacular scenery and easier to enter/exit scenic overlooks. This will also put the passenger side toward the coast, better because the driver will be occupied mostly with driving, not taking pictures or taking in the sights.
