I thought Ford GT would be a great bargain as it depreciated. Didn't work out so well.....

Agree about the fitting in it comment. I love the way the new Z06 looks, just killer - particularly the convertible. However being taller I simply couldn't fit in it, was so tight felt like I was in a coffin! Had to settle for a 991.

No need to settle for second best!

I'm told the C7 Zee-oh will have lower seats and accommodate a taller (six-and-over) driver with helmet, within the broom handle. My concern would be that the carbon roof panel offers precious little intrusion protection. I've got no idea how to shoehorn a cage in the thing (it's going to need some sort of aluminum engineering work) or harnesses, etc. It's easy to mistake the space in the 2+2 cabin in the 911 as a two-seater in GT3 guise, but when you try to get anything into a Vette cabin, you have a bulkhead transaxle behind the seats and a firewall and a V8 block for a pedal box ... and you really need something else in there around your toes, but there's precious little space ... remembering this is a _real_ sports car ... you know ... it's swinging third pedal ...

I made the same mistake. Just about saliva dripping from my greedy fangs as the last of the Ford GT's languished on showroom floors with "$50K+ over" proudly on the window and "name your price ..." negotiations at the sales table ... ugh ... the garages full of great cars I didn't buy at their all time lowest price ... pathetic ...

The seat must be paper thin.
I spent a good few minutes maxing out leg and head room in a Z51 and knees and head touched dash and roof... I don't see it happen.

Z28's I don't see going up, look forward to the new Camaro that will be lighter and hopefully get a Z28 treatment.

The good thing about a Current Camaro is price, manual and I think very safe.
Not sure if I even put out a roll bar in it. Just a harness bar, halo seat and harnesses.

Default 20% off Z-28's until 1/2/2015

So some dealers are taking at least $15,000 off of sticker on Z28's sitting in inventory the longest. Very tempting:

If the $15k is a factory rebate then there's probably even more room to negotiate. I'll take the 997.1 instead as well though.

That sounds great until you have to rebuild a motor or trans.

If DE track only I would opt for Z28 if racing, then Cup.

^ What he said

The refresh on the motor and tranny might cost as much as new Z/28.

At +15K off sticker, it is hard to pass up especially that the car is fully warrantied even for track use.

$60k is what it should have been all along. Interesting.

If it's really a dedicated track car, why would anyone want such a heavy car? For the non-Yeti sized, the C6 Z06 is a better choice, but if the car is track only then a MX-5 Cup, SM, turbo Miata, or go a little crazy with a Radical SR8.

My primary track car is a turbo Miata and gives up very little to all but Cups and well driven late model 911s. And my Z06 gives up nothing to any Porsche street car I've been across, but the consumables are astronomical. I have a 991 GT3 coming and hope to enjoy it on track, but a dedicated track car it will never be. Too expensive.

Or a Lotus Elise. They can be easily supercharged, if it's not a factory SC and they are simply brilliant on track. I am not a dwarf and at 6' tall I fit great in my Elise.

Bottom line, I'll take low weight before worrying about big power every single time. Everything works better. Less tire wear from smaller tires. Better brake longevity and less risk of fade. More agile. Less cooling load since less power required. Smaller size and less aero load. Bearing and bushings last longer. And on and on.
