Default Use of slicks

I found this post very interesting on the 991 Turbo S forum :

Could this also be a valid statement regarding the 991GT3? I know I know...different engines, but I haven't read anything specific as to why Porsche is stating no slicks on the GT3.

I think the newer tts doesn't have a true dry sump like the 991 gt3 and prev gt3 gens. But PAG doesn't recommend use of slicks anyway for the 991 gt3- right? Mike

I'm not sure the wording is " doesn't recommend " or " the use of slicks voids the warranty "...

You probably can use them but like what u said "void warranty" if on owners manual better not. If PAG can find a way of voiding they will- different times. Mike

It's tough to provide a road car warranty to a car being used with slicks, I would think. Not just a starvation issue but rather the level of stress added to the whole car with slicks.

The "no-slicks" warning is ALL OVER the GT3 tech manual. May have something to do with the electric rear wheel steering but that is only speculation. Still the no slicks warning is clear and voids the warranty.

I discussed this with several Porsche techs & mentioned if it was due the RWS. They all mentioned it was probably due to the overall stresses to the CL's, the various suspension components & in particular the lack of maintenance of these parts by owners. Cup cars have frequent maintenance & road cars do not. Also the amount of $$$ Porsche shelled out for CL's made the decision from a financial side easy: no slicks.

Do they consider Hoosier R6 slicks? Also Porsche voids the warranty as soon as the car hits the track even I street tires.

False. 991 GT3 is warrantied for track use so long as an alternate service / maintenance schedule is kept, as detailed in the manual.

And that maintenance schedule isn't really that onerous actually

No problem! A first for GT3s, if I recall correctly.

On My RS I have to replace bearings and uprights at 14,000 KM or about 8,500 miles. When I did it the cost was nearly $6K at my dealer. Essentially use it like a cup car and follow a cup car type maintenance schedule is the PAG rule.
