I believe SamFromTX knows since he needed a new one.
I also recall the potential issue being how it ties into the bumper on the 991. There could more easily be damage to the actual bumper (if you hit the splitter hard enough) that makes it a pricier replacement.

As mwar99 points out, however, minor scrapes to the splitter aren't the primary concern. The front valence goes for several thousand dollars.....

Maybe there's a way to attach the splitter with weaker rivets/connectors so it falls off easier when hit without damaging anything to which it is attached?

My splitter was very slightly warped and was replaced before I even took delivery by my dealer's sharp eyed tech. IIRC, they told me it was about $225.

Agreed and that is why cheap a replacement splitter doesnt allow you to care free but knowing its inexpensive for those light touch downs at low speeds is nice to know!

The front valence has a lip on it and the splitter is molded with a slot to fit over and become an extension of that lip. The two parts basically become one fairly rigid piece. As far as I can tell there are no rivets or connectors. Because of this design it's not like the splitter hangs down very far, if at all, below the valence. If you contact anything with the splitter, other than a slight scrape, the force will be transmitted right to the valence.
