Thanks, Silver. Maybe I should just turn on my air mover before I start the car in the garage...blow it outside with gale force winds...

Tim, I had once after the car was washed. The white smoke shouldn't be enough to fill the garage. If it is, and happens frequently you may want to have it checked.

Good to know. Will pay attention. It happens early in AM. Cold start only.

Nick,if you have it checked by the dealer the report might sounds like this or similar :

" Customer complaint : blue smoke on start up.

Technician ran tests. A test drive was performed.

Technician findings : the vehicle is running within manufacturer specs.

Have a nice day! "

It took a lot of engineering to build this heritage into the new engine!

Smoke is common . Had the issue(actually not an issue) on both of the Porsches I have owned. After break in it will dissipate but you still may get the occasional smoke if it has been sitting for like a week ect.

Yes, both my 964 and 996tt will occasionally let loose a puff of smoke after sitting for a long time or whenever they feel like belching.

Definitely not just after the car sits for a couple of days. I went for a spirited 40+ minute drive this afternoon then drove home. My wife was talking about dinner plans at home so I said "I'll go, make the list of what's needed"; great excuse to drive again with a purpose!! I start the car, and man did it smoke. It wasn't just on startup, it persisted for several (10+) seconds, despite a few good revs. As Macca mentioned earlier, the smoke must be a function of piston position or something similar that allows oil in.

I have had my car now for two days and no smoke

Wait - First good belched happened about an hour ago when I took her out for a 30 min drive. Filled the garage. I now feel better and she is at home. Funny thing is most are concerned about the smoke and I was concerned mine has not because my other two Porsches belched

Thanks for the info, Sam.

I agree--since starting this thread and since reading all the responses, I think Macca is right. Almost not rhyme nor reason.

Oh well, the normality of it among all / most owners is comforting. Strength in numbers!

Smoke on start is normal. Lots, little, either is okay. Be sure to take a couple mile cool down before parking. Seems to lessen it.

^^ Can not go past 4000 rpms?? -"To each there own" on how the want to break it in but with the engine warmed up stretch her legs to 6000-7000 every once in a while. It will not hurt her. These engines are not made of glass.
