Smoke on Startup
#16
Had a boxster that smoked every time but couple 997's that never did. My .2 GT3 smoked almost every time. had 2 Turbo that never smoked.
I am sure next time I start, I will get smoke so I am prepared

Thanks, Silver. Maybe I should just turn on my air mover before I start the car in the garage...blow it outside with gale force winds...

Nick,if you have it checked by the dealer the report might sounds like this or similar :
" Customer complaint : blue smoke on start up.
Technician ran tests. A test drive was performed.
Technician findings : the vehicle is running within manufacturer specs.
Have a nice day! "

Smoke is common . Had the issue(actually not an issue) on both of the Porsches I have owned. After break in it will dissipate but you still may get the occasional smoke if it has been sitting for like a week ect.

Definitely not just after the car sits for a couple of days. I went for a spirited 40+ minute drive this afternoon then drove home. My wife was talking about dinner plans at home so I said "I'll go, make the list of what's needed"; great excuse to drive again with a purpose!! I start the car, and man did it smoke. It wasn't just on startup, it persisted for several (10+) seconds, despite a few good revs. As Macca mentioned earlier, the smoke must be a function of piston position or something similar that allows oil in.

I have had my car now for two days and no smoke
Wait - First good belched happened about an hour ago when I took her out for a 30 min drive. Filled the garage. I now feel better and she is at home. Funny thing is most are concerned about the smoke and I was concerned mine has not because my other two Porsches belched

I agree--since starting this thread and since reading all the responses, I think Macca is right. Almost not rhyme nor reason.
Oh well, the normality of it among all / most owners is comforting. Strength in numbers!

^^ Can not go past 4000 rpms?? -"To each there own" on how the want to break it in but with the engine warmed up stretch her legs to 6000-7000 every once in a while. It will not hurt her. These engines are not made of glass.
