What's your beater car, if any?

I probably won't. The car is the definition of a true beater....40 miles each way in the carpool lane though.

328xi is my daily driver, holding the plate for the new GT3 when she comes.
I also have a 2000 Mercedes ML430 which is my winter beater and ski/mountain car with 190K miles. This would make a perfect BART parking lot bruiser that could take a ding or two and even hurt the car that dinged it!
These are great multipurpose vehicles that are a good deal and less than 10K now. Find a grandma/grandpa model that was well maintained- the motors and transmission seem to last forever, but do need better than factory recommended flushes. If you are a skier, you have the perfect snow vehicle. They have amazing traction for their size and weight- ours is much better than our 2010 X5D in the snow and ice.

This. We have two first gen MLs (since new). Once you get through the electronic gremlins, if any, they just run and run. Go through anything and never lose grip.

After driving it for a month, my 500E beter is the nicest car i have to daily drive.
Really like it, I think it's cool in a sinister kind of way. Most think its ugly but its going in for a mini restoration/update..
Everything works, the power antenna makes me smile every time.
Replacing a few trim bits, getting rid of a rattle, adding XM radio V1 and quiter tires.
Cruises all day at 80-100mph.
Buy the best one you can find and put another 100k miles on it.

Well, compared to a $130K G63 it's a beater. Besides it will mainly be my wife's "beater" (it's what she wanted); I have the Cayenne S. If you opt for the leather interior which we did it's quite nice inside and not cheap looking at all, IMHO. Overall, nicer materials than our A3 which was in the same price range. Anyway that's $45K minus a $10K tax credit from the Feds and CA.....

Mooty - you forget 1968 300SEL 6.3 the pre cursor to the 500E and later S65 AMG. This thing in its day like the 450 was more expensive than almost anything for sale!
Peter - I never owned a Mercedes but I did own he other Porsche bastard child of the 90s the Porsche/Audi RS2 which never came to USA (only 1156 made)....
