Regardless of the name, the color on the 991 was too orange for my taste.

One point worth mentioning is that colour would look different if applied using a different process. The colour on classic Porsche's (and other cars) are pretty flat but modern techniques definitely gives them more depth. Also colour does age under UV light (sun). Therefore it is possible that both cars are the same colour but look different.

Have you tried the process of elimination to pinpoint the colour Eduardo? Shouldn't be too hard given your knowledge and the PTS list.

PS my apologies if either point has been discussed as I haven't read the entire thread.

I am betting that it is PTS 'Signal Yellow' - color code 114. The dealership is saying it's 'Signal Orange' and not providing any details on the color code. We are hoping some enterprising & daring Rennlister will go into McKenna and photograph the 'colour' listed on the body of the vehicle. Regardless, I believe its a 'winner' either way!

Thanks GJ. I am still laughing at this one. Trusted...one dealer to another! Yes, in a perfect world. And even then...'perhaps' !!!

But I am ready to be convinced that what McKenna has is indeed 'Signal Orange'. I just want to see a photo of the 'colour' code on the inside of that 'petrol' lid!

Do you know the color code for Fashion Grey, I'm between Fashion Grey or regular white, but will like to see the Fashion Grey in person,
Will ask the local Porsche body shop to paint me a sample.
Thank you

Fashion Grey, or ModeGrau, is color code 61H. It is approved and has already been done in a 991 (see attached). It's a very early (pre-A) 356 historic color and extremely 'elegant'.

My initial impression when I first looked at the photos posted in the 991 forum was that the color was PTS 'Signal Yellow', which is 'available' & has color code 114. I must remind you that factory-original 'Signal Yellow' paint has a bit of 'orange' in it! It is a gorgeous, rich color and I was lucky to have owned a factory original example in that color on a 1973 911T Sunroof Coupe. The so-called 'Signal Yellow' 1973 911 that McKenna parked right next to its PTS 991 would be telling, or revealing, ONLY IF the 'Signal Yellow' paint on that early 911 was original factory paint from 1972/1973! When I owned my '73 'Signal Yellow' coupe, many of my friends used to refer to it as 'your Orange 911'! You would be surprised how many repainted/restored 911's done in 'Signal Yellow' are not truly representative of the correct, factory-original hue! 'Signal Yellow' is notorious for being hard, almost impossible, to duplicate...I learned that lesson the hard way.

I have inquiries with PCNA re: the availability of 'Signal Orange'. I truly hope I am too pessimistic and indeed 'Signal Orange' is approved & on the exterior of that 991 at McKenna! I simply love 'Signal Orange'. It's one of the most beautiful colors ever used on the early long hood 911's. So we will see. I'll keep you all posted.

PS Ryan: Did you take any photos of both cars parked together at McKenna?
Eduardo,

I met with the GM, Bob Hogan, once he realized I was interested in viewing the color and not buying the car he was immediately less interested in our conversation. He was adamant that the color was Signal Orange.

I was at the dealership for all of 15 minutes with some collegues that I drug along, I did not take any pictures of the two cars.

VR,

Ryan

Thanks Ryan. Interesting, Herr Hogan. I smell something...but can't put my finger on it!

I still have a beer/wine reward going for anyone that can 'push' pass GM Bob Hogan or Sales Manager Primo Garcia at McKenna and get a photograph of the colour code on the gas lid or any other documentation on the car re: its PTS color and code! I may have to raise the bet to two beers if one is not enough to motivate a Rennlister to be daring enough to take this 'PTS Challenge'!

Yet another pathetic dealer. I mean why not go to the trouble to just look at the paint code on the car and answer the question directly or just check the build sheet? Jerks And wrong of course on top of it all. They assured people it was Signal Orange out of pure ignorance.

Colored me surprised...with a tinge of Signal Yellow hue on the margins!

This just in from 'Porsche Exclusive' here in the US:

Hi Eduardo,

I hope this email finds you well and my apologies for the delay in getting
you this list!

Per your request, please see attached for the most up to date PTS list that
we have from Germany. As far as Signal Orange goes, that color is not
currently on our pre-approved list. Should you have any other questions
please do not hesitate to ask.

Best Regards,

Matthew Henry

On another front, I heard earlier today that Herr Hogan has ordered for lunch a poached 'crow' with a side dish of oranges over thick Béchamel sauce! That should keep Bob with the energy needed to continue the 'excellent' job he is doing as General Manager at McKenna!

I will post shortly the new PTS list that Matthew Henry has so kindly provided me so that we can inform our forum on the latest PTS colors approved, rejected and/or under consideration at PAG!

Eduardo

There are a few new pics of cars in Skittle colors painted in what appear to be PTS colors on instagram. Green one and an orange. Not sure if it is real or a foil wrap. Hope someone can confirm this.
