991 GT3. The last of the NA

All of the is sourced from one post in Autocar which assumed a life of its own. Either its the scoop of the century or its wrong. Maybe my bias is showing, but I doubt that they will abandon N/a for this generation.

FI is the future. irony especially being the new panamera and macan (the S is a turbo, but they still call the top model.... a turbo..... like it's the only one)
i was curious with the 3.0T in the panamera if they would call it like the "Turbo" and then "turbo turbo" and then "turbo S turbo" lol

One thing about the turbos and I
Y wife has a Macan S. I also have driven 911 turbos. The sound is terrible. It's more of a vacuum cleaner or maybe a dishwasher. Nothing better than a naturally aspired engine. But I guess it's the future. Even Ferrari started with the California T.

Anyone besides me wondering if the 991 GT3 RS could, possibly, maybe see some hybrid parts in the same manner as the 918 / 919 ? It would be an intriguing way to keep it NA but develop more torque throughout the power range, not to mention meet Euro and CAFE metrics. Of course they would also need to find lightweight battery packs. PAG could then lay claim to a 12,000 rpm motor in a NA car (the e-motor that is).

With the much improved 991 GT3 Chassis, the rumored much higher pricing of the GT3RS will require a significant increase in HP to achieve its greater performance and justify its higher pricing.
In today’s (Sunday, 6/1) Pirelli World Challenge Race, the highest placed GT3R, masterfully driven by Tim Bergmeister, placed 9th, beaten by 2 Cadillac CTS-VRs, 3 Audi R8s, 2 Ferrari 458s and a McLaren 12C. 2 other GT3s finished in 11th and 12th place. All the cars that beat the GT3R either had larger engines or were turbocharged. Has anyone noticed that the N/A GT3s are just not winning as many races against competitors these days?
To add insult to injury, our 475 HP N/A GT3s must pay gas-guzzler fees while the fuel efficiency of it’s big brothers, the 560 HP TTS and 520 HP TT give them a pass. Their are good reasons, both environmental and competitive, that N/A Engines are being replaced by Turbocharged Engines, whether we like it or not. I have no idea whether the new GT3RS will be Turbocharged or not, but having raced my 1995 993 GT2 TT for over 10 years, I can assure you it was as much fun to drive for me as any N/A GT3 I have owned and tracked. Either way, the sky will not fall.

-911 RSRs went 1-2 at the 2013 24 hrs of Le Mans
-won the Rolex 24 hrs at Daytona
-won the 12 hrs of Sebring
It would be nice if more customer teams were winning, but we can't have it all given BOP adjustments.

I am almost certain the RS will be NA. Actually, we may be driving right now a slightly detuned(ECU ect) version of the RS engine as our replacement. The RS engine has been tested quite a bit and the model would of already been introduced if it was not for the "stop sale". I am not buying the reliability conspiracy. The 991 GT3 had a small issue that Porsche has taken car e of. You can not lose confidence in their engineering. They can make this engine with more liters and HP. But, going forward due to a lot of environmental factors, the RS could be the last of the higher performing NA engines unless strictly made for the track- not street.

Fadi1 - Turbo engines do not sound good but they can remedy that with the exhaust system. I had a 997.2 turbo and had an FVD sport exhaust installed and it sounded awesome.

600 cars worldwide, many of which have been babied, so a sizable percentage of the subset that were driven hard needed replacements...

it affected the 3.8 RS too

Interestingly, I have NOT heard anything about a (reputable) tuner's 4.0 (or larger displacement) motor letting go in customer hands.

Yes..my understanding is that it was the intake air distributor. It was not a huge deal to fix - my 3.8 had the recall. However, if it was not fixed the consequences of failure were terminal for the engine.
