Default Clubsport package sticker shock

So, a friend of mine has a contact in Germany who was able to find all the part numbers and price out the cost of buying the full clubsport package (ie bucket seats, roll cage, fire extinguisher, harnesses, and mounting hardware). The actual price for the parts wasn't too surprising, but the additional taxes were unexpected. You are talking about $30,000 USD to get the full clubsport package. Unfortunately, at that price, I'm going to have to tap out. The seats alone will cost $17,000. The cage about $6400. Looks like it will be Recaros and aftermarket bolt-in cage for me. Below are the part numbers and price breakdown:

1 991 580 103 80 rollbar € 3,405.00 € 3,405.00

2 991 803 017 90 6- point belt € 309.00 € 618.00

2 991 521 281 8A seat € 4,515.00 € 9,030.00

8 991 521 863 8A screws € 4.84 € 38.72

8 991 521 861 8A screws € 1.54 € 12.32

2 991 521 429 8A seat console € 540.75 € 1,081.50

10 999 073 465 01 screws € 5.83 € 58.30

1 991 722 115 8A extinguishing bottle € 987.00 € 987.00

2 991 722 123 8A clamp € 29.70 € 59.40

2 991 722 525 8A accumulator € 453.60 € 907.20

4 999 511 244 40 Holder € 2.82 € 11.28

16208.72 EUR

19% TAX 3079.65 EUR
19288.37 EUR

15 % Handl. in GER 2893.25 EUR
22181.62 EUR Total

Wow, Joe, talk about sticker shock! The seats alone are $17K?!!!!! Those are the old 997.2 buckets, right? When Suncoast were selling the 997.2 Sport Buckets I believe they were a shade under $9KUSD and they were a direct bolt in IIRC. They weren't selling the GT3 specific seats with alcantera inserts and the GT3 logo, but those features can't cost an additional $8K, can they? And $1300 for a fire extinguisher? Good grief. Are the prices you were quoted MSRP?

Wow!

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am my GT3 will be a great street car. I'll keep the Cayman R for the track. I could almost buy a spare car for what the clubsport package costs!

Thanks for the info. The cost of the cage itself is acceptable and I hope to buy/import it. But I do agree that the seats are outrageous and there are more sensible alternatives.

Good question - I would think with an order that large, one should be able to get 10% off. I also believe you can avoid tax if shipped directly out of the EU. If all of that works out, you are at $20k. For OEM seats, belts, roll bar, and extinguisher, that is not bad.

But I would hold off on the seats. I am sure US-spec versions will eventually be available here at a price that can be justified. Remember that Porsche will want to make money on these.

I believe it is msrp, but can't say for sure. Yes, these are for the old gt2 bucket seats, but for the 991 specifically (note part number) $17k is crazy, but keep in mind that it includes 19% tax and another 15% handling.

Yeah, I could get another BRZ for that cost....

Make note of the part numbers I posted. Apparently it was not easy for my source to obtain them. Agree the cage is doable, but when you consider that we have bolt-in aftermarket solutions that are cheaper, it doesn't seem as worth it anymore

I agree. The tax and handling fees are what push it over the edge. My source would have to buy direct from Porsche in Germany, and then ship to US. If someone can find a way to ship straight to US to avoid these taxes and fees, let me know. The part numbers are posted.

Don't forget that when you order the seats in your build, an AU$7,790 option in Australia, you effectively get a "credit" for the base seats because they don't need to supply them.

AU$7,790 equates to about €5,200 (€3,320 including tax on the German configurator) and it's unlikely the base seat is valued at ~€10k (working on pre-tax and pre-handling figures) so the $0 clubsport package is great deal

Scott.

Normally all you need is a receipt with a customs stamp in order to get your VAT back.

What is that handling fee? Is that the fee for shipping the items to your friend?

After reading this thread, I realise that the CS package is a value proposition. I will probably change my order again to bucket+CS even though I dont see myself tracking much. I think I have asked this before, how easy is it to remove the roll cage if I want more space for luggage?

Anybody over seas have a picture of their 991GT3 clubsport seats and roll bar that they wish to share?

Im sure the 991RS will have the bucket seats in North America. Thus they will be available at parts department etc... Prices will be more reasonable at that time.

As to the Roll bar, that is something FVD or Carnewal will most likely offer to North America but it will not be cheap.
Id say aftermarket roll bars will be norm in North America. Beisdes, nobody wants to cut the carpets or drill the floors of their new 991. Bolt in will be the way to go.

Roll cage is removeable and can be done in a couple of hours.
Best to get it and store it away. Nice piece to have with the car.
