I'm having a hard time deciding which looks worse. If any of you remember who Bill the Cat is, that's the look I had on my face.

The rumor he heard was that Porsche would rush all 991 gt3 and 991 RS production to completion before Sept. 2014, in order to beat the penalties imposed on these particular models if they didn't meet Euro Cycle 6 emissions! But that also meant that the 991 gt3 or RS would probably NOT be produced after September 2014!

So with the passage of a few months since Macca alerted us to these dark clouds in the horizon re: the hard-to-meet Euro Cycle 6 emissions for the gt3's (Perhaps eventually for all 991 naturally aspirated engines, hence the turbo replacements of even these 'lesser' N/A engines), has anyone been able to flesh out these rumors? Can we get Macca to report the latest re: this rumor and give us a follow-up report from his source?

Adding further confusion to the debate of whether the Normally Aspirated engine will go extinct or not:

-Lamborghini looks to have a brilliant 610hp NA V10 in the Huracan. Lamborghini boss Stefan Winkelmann prefers NA engine for supercars over hybrids, turbos, electric...and seems commited to the NA engine. What does or doesn't he know that others don't?

-BMW goes turbo for M cars

-Chevy with supercharged ZO6

-AMG goes turbo

-Future McLaren's will always be turbo?

-SRT Viper 8.4L V10 NA

-Ferrari is rumored to turbo the 458 replacement

-the next 'Boss' or 'Shelby' Mustang will have a NA 5.0+L with a possible 8,000+ redline

-Acura NSX = hybrid + NA?

-Toyota/Subaru BRZ/Nissan IDx/Miata - NA

-next Nissan GTR will go turbo+hybrid

-No high-performance motorcycle manf. to go turbo

-Audi = turbo's, NA, hybrids...

-all 'Hypercars' went hybrid...

-F1 cars go turbo-regen

-Porsche 919 V4 turbo? Hybrid

...and the NA GT3/RS might die?

Well the regular 911's are going turbo together with, or soon after the .2 2015 facelift that we already have seen in spy pics and is introduced next year.

I can see a C2S with a tune being faster than a GT3.
To me it than makes a lot of sense that the new 991RS will be Turbo and as such the new Turbo side air intakes on the prototypes is logical.

The new GT3RS Turbo, or like Macca speculated no GT3RS but straight to the GT2RS or whatever they call it (GTSTT seems appropriate to me) would explain the PDK-S only GT3.
Turbo's are much better matched with PDK-S than manuals, so this than could explain why they never bothered with the manual 7 speed or retrofit a six speed on the new GT3 engine..

They can than upgrade the .2RS with a Hybrid system to catch all the lag of the Turbo like in the 918 and at the same time they plop that power plant in the new 960.

I figured it all out. A manual Cayman, .1RS or Corvette is last call for manual 5 lugs.
It goes from bad to worse with the Porsche GT cars, but I did not see the dooms day scenario coming till now.

Yup, exact scenario I had recently. It was basically 996/997GT3 or Cayman R.
After looking at entry/consumables/maint. costs etc. went with the R.
Maybe why the 996/997GT3/R/Spyder values have stayed so strong.

Good question....Not sure, only that when Ted Klaus, chief engineer of the NSX project was asked, he said "all options are on the table". Acura calls their system in the RLX sedan, PAWS...precision all wheel steering.

Honda needs to throw everything they have at this new car to make it a success
against very tough competition (GT3/TTS/McLaren etc.). In 1990 they set the bar
for many years, but different game today.....

Another good question....don't know that one.

As of January 2014 here's what I know.....

Not all Acura dealers will be "authorized" to factory order/sell NSX's. Apparently there is going to be a substantial dealer investment in both a special showroom area - to configure new customer cars + special service equipment requirement.

Also understand NSX's will be sold only with a customers bespoke order "built to specification". Nothing in stock except a demo.

Pricing was estimated to start at $150K & go from there. Acura has never
had great success in selling expensive cars to current brand owners. How much
cross-shopping they'll get will be interesting? Their top of the line AWD hybrid RLX is around $70K....FWD drive sales of that model ($60K) are
almost non-existent. Even in it's day the NSX was a tough sell - though it was a great car.

If it performs like a "mini 918" at 1/3 the cost that will certainly turn some heads. Car is going to be built in Ohio w/deliveries 1st quarter 2015 (?)

Not mind reading, just info from those who are closer to the source than me.

1:30 of fun....

Car ahead...same rear cuts in the bodywork, traditional exhaust. Hopefully they are incorrect, and the ugly exhaust is related to the turbocharged engine.

ok, looking at the above pic closely, these could possibly be dummy exhaust tips with the real exhaust tips underneath, you can see the one under the bumper parallel to the Left red reflector. It also seems to possibly have exhaust coming from it as the shadow would probably darken that area if it were just the ice on the road. tough pic to really understand what's going on, but more I look at it, I'm thinking dummy exhaust tips. Thoughts?

Orrr...possibly small displacement single turbo and the area I noticed is really a single wastegate? The plot thickens...

On another note, anyone notice the sexy front fender flares? Reminiscent of the 930 flares a bit
