my feeling is that we see this rather consistently from porsche.

Sorry but this statistical stuff is a bit BS. Why on earth would a car burn in 2014 unless something external causes the fire. I just have not seen many cars spontaneously burn in my life.. Actually now that i think about it the only car I have ever heard of having a similar fate in my circle of friends/family/colleagues was a friend Panamera. I will dig out the pictures.

I had no idea there were nearly that many vehicle fires.
62 million registered in the U.S. divided by the 287,000 fires means roughly 1 in 216 gets flambéed every year.
(It will be interesting to see how far off track I've taken this thread...)

It's interesting that none of the 991 race cars that I know of have caught fire.

Looks like the verdict and solution is in on the GT3... It should make it onto the forums as soon as owners get the phone calls.
I am researching now to see if the effected components are shared with the non GT3 engines.

Seems like a Fluid's leak somewhere, just like with the 997 GT3 Catastrophic Coolant leak, but that was coolant and that generally only causes folks to spin out at the Track!
At least Porsche Engineers can go over the wreckage of the European cars catching fire; especially if they happen in Germany - don't the wrecked cars generally get dropped off at the Manufacturer's or is that just a Mercedes Benz thing?

Is rather not spill the beans that came down to me this morning... There may be some variations of the story that are not completely written in stone yet.
I'd expect that you guys will be hearing official word this week.
Is rather not start the rumor mill, but we have seen this with other modern Porsche engines. Not the fires or exact scenario, but the primary mode of failure.
My source said new crate engines for everyone... Don't hold me to it, or ask for details, but I could see why they'd need a new engine with this mode of failure.

It seems that you are the only 3 Rennlisters who haven't been following the Stop Sale thread, which has had ~40,000 views in the past 3 days. Info on the fix first appeared at 11:23 AM EST this morning (page 172).
