Sorry Mike,

The thread starting going "Cayman" sideways and I just couldn't let that completely happen.

And besides. My wife thinks Rennlist is a cartoon our Lab watches on the Dog Channel.

Also, I don't think Suzy frequents this area much. If she sees this though I'm busted.

Has anybody heard of AP these days? Is he now saying "shut up and do not drive the car?". Sorry for those buyers who waited for so long... Hope you all get plenty of compensation.

I frequently joke with my friends that GT3s are useless cars.

Useless in the sense that they are only good for providing a driving thrill, and not much else. I once tried to transport a small tower server to my friend's shop and couldn't fit it in my GT3...I mean, really? I still laugh about that specific moment.

Impractical cars will never have high sales, no matter how big the apparent bang for the buck. A Macan will outsell a Boxster 100 fold.

The new 991 GT3 engine is not based on the 997.2 DFI engine and only share a few fasteners according to AP. Porsche has done the opposite in releasing a street version engine before they raced it in competition. The Mezger engine soldiered on for last year's races because they got some kind of relief with more competitive rules exemption. The current RSR has the same motorsports engine as the 991 GT3 engine and Cup car engine.

^^^ 991GT3 = 9A1 based motor heavily modified... 991 RSR and Cup Car = Mezger engine....

Your last statement suggests they all run the same power plant, they don't...

Chris, your point about the Mezger is correct, of course.

FWIW, I don't know where one draws the line between "modified" and "new". The GT3 motor shares the timing chain, head bolts, and alternator with the DFI Carrera. The block is modified with provisions for improved lubrication. My understanding is that every other part is new.

The old ones can fit with race seats and modifications, Mjenk fits in one for racing but for DE I'll take a new Euro delivery stripper.

Agreed Mike... just used that description because it doesn't have a model designation one can use. It is far from a modified 9A1 but I can't call it a 9A2... Know what I mean?...
