Default Gas consumption

I was just looking at gas consumption figures and the GT3 gets the lowest mileage of ANY Porsche. Worse than a cayenne turbo S. Is that possible? I know that most GT3 owners wouldn't care but that explains the option of the larger fuel tank.

The larger fuel tank is for competition where you want to avoid pit stops.

Every street GT3 I've had gets way worse mileage on the street than a regular Carrera, but better mileage on the track. Nature of the beast....

Has a lot to with compression ratios. 12.9:1 is a really high ratio -- about as high as you see on a street car. That compares to 12.5:1 on the normal 991. Think of it as the ratio of the length of the cylinder volume when fully extended (on fuel / air intake) vs. compressed (right before ignition / power stroke). The higher that ratio the more force is being applied to compress air each time and that creates mechanical drag. The offset to that (as Leigh2 alluded to) is that when you're running at higher performance levels (on track, etc.), you can get more power out of the power stroke and therefore be slightly more efficient, but for toodling around town picking up groceries, it's a bit of a mechanical drag. As another point of comparison, I drive an 2008 Audi RS4 B7 (V8) and that runs a 12.5:1 compression ratio...and that thing is a dog around town. I can almost see the fuel gauge needle moving. That's all for now...

I took my car for a spirited drive the other day and probably traveled close to 30 miles or so and the computer said I started with 190 miles before empty and I ended with 130, soooooooo

I have a spread sheet in my car and every time I pull up to gas station I put a mark next to Oh boy did I have fun on the last tank. The less MPG the more fun is how I see it.

My mileage greatly improved after ~200 miles and is now about 20% better than in Cayenne Turbo (same road, same driver) - just over 24 mpg highway.

That just means you're not driving fast enough Max!

You're right about that - most of the time, it's the speed of cars in front of me. Got to get out of traffic and hit a tack. February 10th will be the first track day for my GT3.

The GT3 is actually an improvement. My V10 M5 (contrary to its official specs) was only getting about 8mpg city and 12mpg highway so I feel like I'm going to be helping the environment with the GT3

My commuter car is a Volt. The GT3 isn't about carbon footprint--it's about pure joy. My commute and commuter car are practical enough!
