If you do a direct battery connection make sure you use the proper neg ground not on the battery. Also remember these are AGM batteries and they need a different charging sequence and amperage.

Are you sure the 991 GT3 battery is AGM?

The standard fitment battery for 7.2 GT3 RS ..was/is lead acid from Moll...the only factory option being the lithium lightweight....

I believe the CTEK Multi US 3300, 12 VDC@ 0.8 Amps is identical to the "Porsche" Branded Charger at a lower price. I plug it into the "Smoker's Package" Ashtray Lighter Socket.
If you need Battery Maintaining, Charging and Desulphating, The "Battery Minder" Plus Model 12117 provides that inexpensively with an output of 12 VDC @ 1.3 Amps in a compact package.
For more rapid charging and Desulphating the larger Battery Minder Model 12248 provides higher output,
12 VDC at 2, 4 and 8 Amperes. All the above are solid state controlled and can be used for maintenance
and charging. The Battery Minders come with a direct battery connecting cord and a quick release plug.

You're right, the CTEK 3300 is identical to and much cheaper than the Porsche charger. I have that one and the CTEK 7002. Both came with eyelet cables for direct connection to the battery which also has a quick release plug to connect to the charger cable. They are available with an optional 12V/cigarette lighter connector. No affiliation, just a happy customer...

I have the 3300 as well. It works great. Bought mine at Amazon. Saved about $70.00. Only thing different is one has a Porsche crest.

On Amazon, the exact same charger (CTEK 3300) comes with battery eyelet and alligator clamp connectors both equipped with the quick connect plugs for $54. The cigarette adaptor costs $11.97 for a total of $65.97.

Yes folks, you save $41!

Drive it then it doesnt need trickle charging LOL!

I connect CTEK quick charger lead with LED status indicator to batter then plug in and run lead under front trunk lid, when it closes just squashes cable between lid and rubber trunk seal and seems to be fine (been doing it for years eventually cable may suffer I guess).

I've got a number of the CTEK 3300 chargers, one on the winch battery in my trailer, one on the battery in my race car, and one on my Cayman R. I'll likely grab another one for the GT3 when it finally gets here ... ugh!

CTEK provides their chargers for re-branding to Porsche, BMW, Audi, Lamborghini and a host of other manufacturers.

CTEK 3300 charger also provides desulphation, from their website

"Patented desulphation function

Unused batteries lose their power and their life is shortened through sulphation. It is also more difficult to charge sulfated batteries. The MULTI US 3300 has a patented method for reconditioning sulfated batteries. The charger analyzes the state of the battery and, if possible, recovers the battery and its power."

I have three of these including the Porsche unit. The best for the money is the 4600. If you will replace the Porsche battery in the future you may go AGM gel battery which requires a ctek with a snowflake charge option...

Was out in the garage working on a different rainy day project and thought I'd take some pics as a follow up on this topic. They show an alternative to plugging the charger into an outlet in the passenger compartment.

I connect my CTEK unit direct to the battery with a fused CTEK eyelet cable and an extension connector. I fished the quick connect plug out of the handle for the battery compartment cover where it nestles right in the recess when not in use. Since I keep my hood ajar anyway to pull out and store my car cover, this works out well for me. The on board computer gives a warning when the hood is open so this method also helps prevent drive offs with the charger plugged in.

Great work Mike. This DIY is first on my list along with the V1 hardwire when the car arrives in NZ - both of which you have covered off - brilliant!
