Default McLaren is after Porsche's market with the P13

" With news that McLaren is plotting a Ferrari F12 and Lamborghini Aventador fighter in the shape of the P15, new details have come to light about the British supercar maker's other upcoming car - the P13.
Previous reports revealed the sub-12C car would be powered by the same Ricardo-built 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that motivates the 12C, and that styling would be influenced by the P1.
Added to that is news from Autocar claiming McLaren is developing the entry-level car as a direct rival for the Porsche 911. Power will be in the region of 450-500 hp, which will be sent to the tarmac via a seven-speed dual clutch. 0-60 mph will be clocked in less than four seconds, and it will top out at 185 mph. McLaren has confirmed the model won't be called 'P13.' It will, however, be lighter and smaller than the 1,400 kg 12C with improved driving dynamics. The carmaker aims to shift around 4,000 units annually once all variants are out. These include a Spider and stripped-out, track-focused variant similar to the 911 GT3. A reveal is expected next year at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. "

In other news :

" More than a decade passed between when production ended on the iconic McLaren F1 and the launch of the 12C. And only last March at Geneva did McLaren unveil the F1’s successor, the equally bonkers P1. Clearly McLaren is in expansion mode and we’ve already confirmed it’s planning a new entry-level model below the 12C. But now it seems the McLaren lineup is set to grow by one more. Autocar has confirmed the first details about a new model potentially to be called the P15.
It'll fill the slot between the 12C and the P1. Although it’s still "quite a long way off," it’s been confirmed that it’ll be powered by a heavily revised version of the 12C’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8. And of course it’ll be mid-engined. The P15 will also make use of McLaren’s signature carbon fiber tub. Other than those bits, no other details were given. McLaren has made clear its intentions to launch something relevant every year, but many assumed this meant more hard-core versions of existing models. The entry-level McLaren, currently called the P13, will rival the Porsche 911 Turbo. It’ll likely arrive on the scene sometime in 2015. Expect the P15 sometime around 2017. "

Holy grail moment: if the "P13" is just a less powerful naturally aspirated version of the current v8, in a car priced somewhere between a 911 and a 911 turbo.. With a carbon tub.. Then gents.. We would have ourselves a very very desirable and affordable mclaren

Mclaren's dealer network needs to grow before they put any dent into Porsche's share. Unless you live in the Silicon Valley, Orange County, or LA, it's not practical to own one (in CA).

I can't get too excited about a car that won't even be shown for more than a year (maybe). And then, when would U.S. deliveries start? For now, I will continue to assess Porsche's competitors based on what's in the showroom of each brand.

I highly doubt we will see anything NA after 2015.
Perhaps NA + hybrid...

With new competition, everyone wins. I like McLaren very much. I highly doubt any Porsche fan should be concerned, they are on top of their game right now. And there's always the synthetic, cold and distant feel McLaren comes with.

Lets see if MC can make "stockings" instead of "tights."

Look, I get that this is the trend.. But unless the use a 6 cylinder engine for this car and then turbo it, it mAkes sense in view of their extensive platform and engine sharing that they would remove the auxiliary fun parts off their v8 and just have a NA 450-500hp engine for their baby car. No?
