It is intriguing that, at this fairly late stage, there is not a single road test of the RS. Maybe my memory is faulty, but I generally seemed to read a ton of press before first customer ship...there was just the announcement stuff and then...nothing.

Maybe this is the reason:

That's a great color too, looks even better on a Cab, and likely a Targa as well.

I'm hoping we get Z62 on the new 981 Spyder...

There is an article in the latest issue of Christophorus re the new RS. Link below. This sentence caught my eye: "The RS is not limited, but until the production window closes in Spring 2016, a maximum of two thousand units will find their way to happy new owners."

Yeah, my initial understanding was that production starts would continue through early Spring (Jan - March). But now it seems like there aren't any production starts beyond December 2015.

Still, no real info coming out of PAG. I think even PCNA is wondering, as they have a lot of confirmed demand / orders, but not even close to enough (or enough minus 10%) allocations. It's in PCNA's best interest to get more allocs from PAG, anyway, since it's money left on the table otherwise.

Oh snap, back to Lava Orange.

As for availability, those still waiting should chill. Unless it has a numbered plate on the dash you'll almost certainly get one (speaking for the US).

Is a limited run like a GT3 or RS done for brand image only? Does Porsche make that much on a limited run of vehicles like this? If they are loss leaders to help brand image then it makes sense to limit production.

Porsche doesn't do loss leaders.

It's even crazier than they didn't do PTS for the first-run after the interview with Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser (current head of GT road cars and motorsports) in last month's Panorama...

2000 cars seems to be crazy... all cars are sold in the world with allocation...i don't understand this mistake. Perhaps this number is a global GT3 range model...

There were more than 3,000 991 GT3s, so it's less than that. As for GT4, I suspect they'll make a bunch based on the initial uptake success.

I wonder if the Spring ending coincides with the refresh? Seems to make sense to start it from MY2017 - could point to chassis changes resulting in all 991 production needing to stop.

Just some idle speculation while stuck at the airport, but I think PAG needs to do more than add a Turbo to an existing chassis to make people excited about the refresh...
