Question 991 GT3 PDK paddles?

Are they mounted on the steering wheel or steering column?

Hopefully the new RS will have column mounted paddles...

All current 911 models have wheel mounted paddles. That is on the sport design wheel of course. I doubt the RS will be different. The multi function steerings are a different story. (can't stand the shifters on those)

All F cars have their paddles column mounted. But with either scenario I find it awkward to shift during the middle of a turn so I avoid it if possible.

Highly doubt they will change it. I much prefer knowing the paddles are right there regardless of the steering wheel position. With a column mount you end up with the inevitable awkward reach.

I find the column mounted paddles less awkward as you always know where the upshift and downshift paddles are, as they do not move with the wheel.

For a street car column mounted is okay, for the track leave them on the wheel thank you very much, just to torture the shufflers. I like having paddles where my hands are midcorner.

I am used to, and prefer them column mounted. Also, there are extensions available which allow a greater degree of coverage. Just my opinion, but my GT3 with sportdesign will be wheel mounted, so I will adjust.

When you shuffle, the upshift will always be on your right and the downshift on your left, regardless of where your hands may be at any particular point.

Changing gears mid-turn upsets the car's balance. You don't want that.

Choose your gear before turn in, that gear needs to carry you all the way through the corner.

Then it doesn't matter if the paddles are on the wheel or the column.

In general that's true. But you'll find with PDK/PDK-S, and probably most DCT's, it's not the case. Because there are two clutches and two input shafts, and because the next gear is pre-selected on the adjacent shaft, there's no interruption of the power flow. That means virtually no weight transfer associated with each shift and that it's possible to shift mid corner, if desired, without upsetting the car's balance.

^ agreed, in my cup car with sequential, the shifting is very fast. and i would shift midturn at almost full throttle. no upset. certainly you dont do it every corner, but some turns, this is faster.
