some times hot some times cold, some times alot some times not. and all the myths like park it on a 10 degree tilt left/idle 2.7 minutes before turning off,get blackstone oil test before shutting off,its obamas fault, its normal. IT IS EMBARRASSING

I always thought that a little smoke on start up was more or less a "feature" of horizontally opposed motors in general and flat sixes in particular. Especially when parked on a less than level surface it's easy for a little oil to pool in the bottom of the cylinder while the car is sitting and get burned off at start-up.

BMW horizontally opposed twins, like Porsches, are also pretty well known for the same occasional smoke on start-up, especially when left on the side stand. I can't speak to Subarus; only owned one Subie in 45 years and didn't keep it long enough to notice much of anything about it. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Not that a puff of smoke matters beyond the looks you get when you 'big $$$' car lets one rip worse that a Datsun 120Y, but whilst dry sumped and with a collection pan now at the bottom of the engine, I would have assumed they had this flatulence issue licked...

Wife has a beater Legacy GT for 13 years and still going strong. Never smoked. The GT3 on the other hand randomly smokes the entire garage.

I have seen smoke out of plenty STIs, but not sure if that was normal or result of tuning or abuse.
