- I have serious pccb rotor size envy after seeing that.

- it is reconfirmed that front lift is an absolute necessity on the 991 GT3.

calexio agreed. Eventually you'll get a flat. It'll have to be trucked to the dealer for new shoes at that point.

ditto on PCCB envy... WTF, another $9.2K.

I understand the need for a lft for some. I never felt the need for one on my .2 3.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse.. But did you see the lengths they had to go to just to get the cAr off a trailer? and not sure if you noticed that chart which shows break-over angle for the 991, and how it's HALF of what it was for the 997 gt3! With the longer wheelbase this is a totally different animal. My dealer said the same, optional for 997.. But lift is mandatory for 991 gt3.

Ps. Ok, yep, the horSe is definitely dead now, I thought id seen him still take a breath so I had to make triple sure.

calexio, I don't think the front lift will appreciably change break over angle. Only approach angle.

Not so sure it's mandatory. You have some valid points, however, this looks no different than my .2 at this angle.

Any GT3 will scrape. The ducts and fender linings (which extend beyond the bottom of the car) will scrape, lift or not. I have scraped on the street taking hard, fast, corners with a modest dip in the road. No worries, just a few abrasions at the leading edge.

I have yet to see a situation where I could not imagine taking this car without a lift.

That said, I may again consider a lift for those unforeseen situations where angles are too steep. I fortunately do not have to deal with parking garages or San Fran. terrain. I can see how you would need a lift there.

I do not expect speed bumps to be an issue either. I'll likely skip, we'll see... also heard a few stories of the lifts repeatedly failing.

Re: break-over angle. If this is cut in half by the 991's longer WB, how much is returned by using the front lift to its 1.2" elevated max? If I were to guess, 2-3°

I'm kind of tired to hear every thread have someone say you don't need a lift. No offense at all, but it's akin to people who choose to ride in the back seat of a car with no seat belt because they feel safe and think physics don't apply. The idea of buying a ~$130-170k car and deciding to opt out of a ~$3k option that will allow you to access public roads more easily and not scrape the crap out of the front nose at the most common inclines because you had a previous generation car that got away without it on just seems like poor judgment in my mind. If this were a $7k car and you were talking about a $3k option, I might concede the point, but I just can't fathom being an owner of the car in a few months and thinking to myself "this was a good idea to save the equivalent of 3 sets of golf clubs" and endure a scraping noise pulling into a gas station. It's a really low car that's a pain to take over angles and it's idiotic to me that Porsche made this an option. Good luck to all of you who choose to save the nickels and get stuck on a road somewhere. Please send the forum of your "I'm an idiot" post. Okay, I will get off my soap box.

Guess I'm an idiot. 3 years into my 2010 GT3 and 2 front lips later I could care less about the lift (that on my friends 997.2's works half the time). On my RS 2015 I won't spec it either. Not sure the 3k is really the motivating factor here.

I have the lift on my order but I think if you do the math you will see its not really needed for some folks (NOT ALL). The front lips are couple hundred so you can buy 15 of them for the $3K. Everyone tells me its a MUST but I don't have lift on my 0.2 and the front lip has yet to scrape . Its always the underneath plastic part (whatever its called) that scrapes on steep driveways no matter what angle I enter. I am pretty sure even with the lift it will still scrape. I haven't canceled it but LOVE to do it. It would be nice to run some model & look at data of course we need all the specs.

To each their own. I'm buying a lift to decrease the frequency of hearing the spine-tingling scrape and breaking down in tears. For all of you others out there who feel the need to tempt fate, god bless.
