Question on deposits

I have a chance on a 12/2013 build with a 3/14/2014 delivery, only question is they want a $15k deposit. I've ordered a few Porsches in the past(not from this dealer) and I've never put this much on a order before. I'm very tempted to go with it. Any thoughts ???

A 10% deposit is what my dealer wanted. Gee, I like the build slot you've been offered. A mid-March arrival would be perfect
I just have a "2nd quarter 2014" slot...

I only needed a $1,000 refundable deposit to hold a #3 spot.

Best case, you're giving them an interest free loan. Worse case: ask yourself how you'd feel if they went bankrupt while you're waiting for your car?
I have never and would never put down more than $1k.

I put down a $1K deposit for a number #1 slot, but it was way back in March of 2012. Obviously your dealer is trying to weed out non-serious buyers.
OTOH, when my order actually went into the system in July a $10K deposit was required, which is not out of line with what I've paid when ordering previous Porsches. At this point, you're not paying for a waiting slot, you're placing an actual order with delivery inside of 6 months. If you're sure you want the car, under the circumstances $15K doesn't seem like it should be a deal breaker. Just my $.02.

This is similar to my dealer experience. I have an excellent dealer, very straight shooter. 1000$ to hold your spot in line. Right now I have a spot reserved for the 2015 GT3RS, so they have 1000$. When the car is available and the order is placed in the system, 10k is due. Bought my current RS this way, it worked well.

I was also asked to place 10% at the time of ordering. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I ask the same of my clients when I start a new project. It definitely weeds out the less serious folks.

I put down $5000 to get on the list and did not pay anything to spec and place the car into the Porsche system once my allocation came through. Oddly, when I was buying Ferrari's I did not have to pay anything until I picked up the car.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, since the risk of loss of the 15k is low given that the build slot is just around the corner. If my dealer wanted 15k I'd be fine with it, though my slot is being held on a handshake as it was with the last couple cars.

I've generally put down $1,000 - $2,500 as deposits on Porsches. If the car is being ordered to your specifications, it would most likely be more difficult to resell to somebody else, and a larger down-payment is warranted. As long as you have your deal in writing to prevent any future misunderstandings, I would have no hesitation in giving any reasonable sum prior to delivery to any Porsche Dealer. With interest rates generally below 1%, neither you nor the dealer are making much money from a few months of interest.
As far as any Porsche Dealer "going bankrupt" those chances are as close to ZERO as you can get.
The Porsche Franchise is the most valuable of ALL the car franchises, and a long list of investors are
waiting in the wings for an opportunity to buy one. The Dealers are all well aware of that. They also know Porsche AG would not be pleased if the dealer did not fully support and stand behind any commitments made to their customers. If I'm dealing with any franchised Porsche Dealer, I simply do
not have the same concerns that I do with all the other New or Used car dealers. IMHO, they have far more reason not to trust us than we them. Just make certain to get the price and delivery nailed down in writing, and, with a used car, the condition and warranty terms. On new GT cars much in demand like the GT3, a precise date of delivery may not be possible, or may be changed by the factory, but you should know, in writing, exactly how many prior customers will receive their cars prior to yours to avoid anyone "outbidding" you for an early delivery slot.

2500 deposit to get on the list. have been repeatedly assurred I'll get a car, that the dealer has the allocations and one is assigned to me, but can't get firm timing yet. If I had entered the specs and had firm timing and paperwork all clear, then would not have a problem with +/- 10% payment at that point.

4.0RS $500.
991GT3: $1000
991RS: $1000
deposit amount was never increase at order or at production.
i will not give more deposit. deposits are refudnable, so i dont understand why dealer required them at all.
of course, if i ordered a car with PTS in puke, i understand it's a hardsell, then i will voluntarily put more deposit to put them at ease.
that said, if indiana's Zanzibar is for sale, pls PM me.
it's a strange color loathed by many, but the manly men understand it. i love it.
