I mean look at AMG. Their turbo cars sound just as good as their N/A cars.

I haven't heard the newer turbo AMG's, but turbochargers are serious blockages right in the exhaust path. So, it's natural that it would affect the exhaust sound (my Evo is streetable with no cat nor muffler due to the natural muffling of the turbo).

Yep, basically you are hearing the sound of the turbine spinning more then the engine note. I am a big fan of the turbos but at the track the GT3 cars make the Turbos sound like little toys.

Because any big v8 sounds good. And the turbos don't sound as good - nothing touches the 6.2 liter v8s.

Think of the two turbochargers as two very effective mufflers absorbing most of the exhaust energy (sound) since that energy is what spins the turbochargers.

Porsche has the ability to to make their turbos sound way better. IMO theyre unwilling for the standard Turbos.
its sad that my neighbor bmw 335 sounded better than my TT.

You have to go to the after mkt to get good sound. Europipe and Cargraphics are my favs.

I can tell from my own experience that the 991 Turbo S sound a lot better than the 997 TTS. Still no comparison to the GT3 of course, but it's a lot better than before.

Sound is muffled and distorted by the flow through the Turbos. Extra boost is is rerouted back through the wastage instead of being dumped outside like the the 930s & 965s.

That said with the right aftermarket exhaust They sound ferocious !

My 996tt sounds pretty damn good with the 3" Speedtech X design and 100 cel cats. Stock it sounded awful.

Considering that Porsche could easily sell a TT sport exhaust option for several thousand dollars, and many would buy it, I'm really curious why they still don't offer one.

From what I've read on Rennteam, they did look to offer a Sport exhaust, but it was difficult and very expensive to make (titanium) and they never were really satisfied with the results they got with it, so they decided not to offer a PSE for the Turbo. They only offer polished titanium double round Sport tailpipes (available from march 2014). But those will probably not change the sound

For people that are interested in those, the price of the titanium tailpipes is EUR 952 in Germany (incl. 19% VAT)

I understand what you're saying, but there are many aftermarket options available and those companies make it work. It doesn't even have to be a valved system or titanium, just something like a Europipe Stage 1. It gives a sporty sound, but it's not overbearing. If that was available through Porsche, I bet a lot of people would order it. Plus, it wouldn't be as expensive as a valved PSE.

Probably Porsche wasn't happy with the sound. You have to be aware of the fact that Porsche can't just offer exhausts like those from the companies that make after matket exhausts. Porsche as a "big" car manufacturer has to meet the various regulations mandated by for example the E.U. After market companies have far less restrictions to produce a good sounding exhaust, just like for example Ferrari, because they produce a lot less vehicles.
To keep within the regulations, set for car manufacturers like Porsche, they had to make a complicated exhaust to meet their requirements of sound. This was too complicated and/or too expensive and that's why they decided not to offer one.
So after market is the way to go...

I'm pretty sure that If Porsche had been able to produce one to their liking and requirements, within the regulations and it was marketable, that they would have offered it. We all know how they like to offer numerous options.
