Silly question maybe, but why are people so absorbed with making porky road cars into track cars? Why not buy something cheaper and fully-stripped out to start with? Maybe an m3/m4 sucks on track... But that's not the point is it? Start with a roll cage stripped weighing 2500lb and costing $40k all-in, and kick road car asses all day at the track.
I realize the gt3 is probably a good compromise, but it's still a compromise.. You can get a used Cup car for the price of a base 991 gt3 and spank 991 RS butt all day long.

I currently have the M5 in 6MT (with rev matching) and test drove a 435x in 6MT yesterday. If the 4er platform is any prelude to what the M4 will be like we are in for a great treat. The car is incredible and I hear.. get this... that for the 1st time ever you can even get full leather, Ceramic Breaks, in both the M3 and M4. The M3 today is basically the same size as the E39 M5... so its on my shopping list as the next DD to replace the M5 which has been a bit of a boat .. but comfy fast one at that.
As per MT - BMW has the engineering might and funds to be able to keep produce stick shifts where they see fit. The 1M Coupe was such a massive hit for them and those cars have retained their value like crazy! I think BMW is onto something ...
