Article seems balanced--totally agree. Steering feel not perfect, but far better than other electric systems, can't deny that no stick = loss of something...but, new experience overall must be judged on its merits and those merits are significant.

Since when are Porsche's exciting at regular speeds? All the ones I have owned required being near the limit to get the excitement out of the car. This is where Ferrari trumps Porsche big time. You do not have to drive a Ferrari nears its limit to feel the joy of the car. Even at regular speeds, Ferrari's provide stimulation.

If it is a marketing ploy, given that we're all talking about it, it's a pretty good one.

I'll likely own one of these things at some point, but this pair of articles highlights both what appeals to me and concerns me about the car. No way I'm paying $9K for the PCCBs. Bummer that the track seats will cost an extra $4K, given that they're a no-cost option with the Cayman R.

They were a $3k option on the last GT3.
This article is not gospel. Automobile doesn't know if the seats will even be available for certain nor the price.

Only within the realm of PCars (and only comparing within this realm), the pricing on the GT3 seems like a good "value" (as crazy as that sounds...). A C2S with PowerKit, aero, and built to be as "GT3 like" as possible winds up being not dramatically different in price at all...and it still wouldn't have the same brakes (big reds or PCCB), PDK-S, aluminum bodywork, electric steering and wider front track setup, RWS, wheels, or (most inportantly) engine.

The next model year is likely going to see a nice base price increase, I'd imagine.

Agree that the GT3 represents the best value among 991s, and I too am concerned that the price will go up for the 2015 MY.

I think you'll more options to choose from and any price increase will be minimal. Maybe like before where price goes up but includes more base items. Either way I wanted a MY2015. They'll be here Q3 2014.

this is the thing I notice the most b/w the 991 and 997.2 Carrera.

No offence guys but Ive been thinking the 997.1 GT3 I drove lacked drama and engagement at all speeds (compared to my 996.1 GT3, 993RS and 993C2). Its all very relative. The 911 even in GT3 form have becoming fatter, heavier and more civilized since the 964RS...

Nice balanced article with some new information on seats (glad Im taking the "free" standard ones till the fixed bucket come out). The Steel brakes for PCCM is utter nonsense. Why create and market the benefits of PCCB then produce a pack for when using at the track because they wear to quickly LOL! I think the PCCB thing is supersize me. The margin on those for PAG is probably 10% of the margin on a whole finished car LOL! Nice upsell.

...assume you've never owned a Porsche 911 GT3?

Both my 996 GT3 and 997 GT3 were very engaging at sane speeds. So much so that the 996 fell into the PITA camp at times due to tramlining and skittishness.

I guess I must be too easy. I've been engaged driving all of my Porsches, even including my Cayenne S which is a KITA. Heck, I even enjoy climbing into my wife's torquey little diesel A3 TDI. As I've said before I drove MT's for decades, but there are so many things that I love about driving, and always have, that go way beyond just rowing a stick.

Honestly, not to step on anyone's toes, but the idea that someone thinks they might possibly be bored driving the 991 GT3 that I've seen being flogged in the various videos that are out there, even in a daily drive on the street, just blows me away. Some of you must be impossibly hard to please!

A key aspect of the GT3 that convinced me it was the car to buy was the fact that the sounds, rumble, feel and emotions stirred even at street speeds were supercar like... I expect the same from the next GT3 despite pdk... Nick's suggestion that ALL porsches lack excitement at street speeds is simply wrong IMO... Just saying...
