Default VW Group sure is confused about Paddles vs. Manual

After making the GT3 paddle-only, the previously paddle-only Audi R8 GT model is being enhanced and is including a Manual version - last ever gated manual shifter?? This is also the swan song for the hydraulic steering in the R8 & Gallardo. Get em while you can...

Many assume that the choice to go PDK in the GT3 was strictly a marketing decision. What about the possiblility that the development team actually tested both MT and PDK, were free to go either way as far as VW was concerned, but evaluated and chose a revised PDK as the best overall match for the high revving engine in the 991 GT3? The Audi, with it's V10 is a very different animal. Maybe they're not confused at all. Just sayin'.....

I doubt it. . . . Porsche has been perfectly matching manual transmissions to high performance engines for umpteen years...they are the best in the business....No other manual comes close....

Mike - the V10 redlines at 8,700rpm, if that changes your opinion...

they could also give us a "not so perfectly matched" manual. .. ..even if it's slightly less performance

525HP manual at $150K seems like a bargain if you look at the stuff it comes with...

Too bad about the 3700Lbs but for a couple of intermediate track weekends, it should be a great car.

I think the GT Plus will be more powerful, lighter, and more expensive. I drove a V10 Manual convertible and loved it. Best manual gearbox ever, IMO. The flywheel feels massless, as the motor revs like a sport bike. Steering is good (hydraulic), but not GT3 good. AWD is pretty unobtrusive, but I'd go without if possible.

The V8 is also available with a manual for $118k.
Too bad it's down on power a little for 3550lbs...

Grant, it wasn't so much an opinion as a thought for further discussion.

We know the V10 makes 20% more torque than the 3.8 liter Porsche motor and obviously a lot more horsepower too. Where that power is made in the power curve is also a factor. The whole issue of involvement aside (god help me I don't want to go there) it may be that the difference between a DCT and MT V10 wasn't as big a deal as that between a PDK and MT 3.8 L flat 6.

Or not.....

There was a time (just a couple of years ago) when that was GT3 money and you could have a well optioned Carrera S for $20K less than an R8. Now that 991 prices have moved up the dollars scale, the R8 is a much more attractive offering that it used be. Very different when a similarly equipped C2S is $10K dearer.
