The obvious, natural comparison test will be the GT-R. Now that Porsche has abandoned any connection whatsoever with the race cars - apart from the mirrors - and traded in the unique emphasis on the driving experience/involvement for outright pace, there's nowhere to hide and no excuses to make when the GT-R trounces it in a comparo.
Agreed!!! The GT-R is the price benchmark and closest competitor to all the Supercars on both price and performance. And now that Nissan has matched the 7:18 Ring Time of the 2011 GT2-RS at half the GT2's price,
it is a formidable competitor to all the hottest 911s which has, like Porsche, spent many years honing the design into an incredibly fast and reliable car.
They also plan to challenge Porsche on the Track as well through Nismo,
their equivalent of Porsche Motorsports.

The 2013 458 has a base price of approximately $240K. That includes a three year warranty and seven years of scheduled maintenance. With options, most of them are priced between $260K and $300K.

Fully agree..dont forget the 458 also..which is in my opinion way too expensive anyway..I think Ferrari will have to come down to a realistic price level..MP4-12 is cheaper, 991 GT3 is a lot cheaper..and both will probably destroy it on the track..the MP4-12 does it anyway.

Someone was mentioning the 4..as competitor..if you were talking about the Mp4-12..dream on..the Mclaren has 620HP..this car is on a different planet. Its no problem either..since the Mp4-12 is much more expensive..but the 911 GT3 - was - and never will be a competitor to a Mclaren Mp4-12..

Bingo.

Their look, price, performance, and even transmission will be over 95% identical.

Turbo will have an advantage as it will come in cab form as well.

Just to clarify, these are the five key competitors identified by Porsche (inside info). Each and every one of us can surely identify other competitors based on personal preferences.

Makes sense for them to only list cars that are more expensive, with the exception of teh ZR1 which is cheaper and about 10 sec quicker around NBR

And that was last Gen. The new one may have Turbos and be even quicker. The new Z06 is going to come out next year and could make the performance of the new GT3 even more obsolete than it will be on release.

geez youre right. I think we all need a drink.
here are the vette's ring times :
Corvette ZR1 7:19.63
Corvette Z06 Z07 Package 7:22.68

And You know the upcoming zo6 vette aint gonna have no stink'in rear wheel steering. Theyre prob ROFLOL.

At least we can still laugh at them for having leaf springs.

Yes the rumor is that if the ZR1 has 700hp, the Z06 will have 600 opposed to the 505 now, imagine what laptimes they wil have.
And as was mentioned at a much lower price than the GT3

I was ready to buy the GT3, but not so sure anymore
For now I will just use the track rat in the meantime until she gets sold

My top 6 competitors now
Porsche TTT
Corvette 151 track pack, or Z07
Viper ACR
Vantage track pack
BMW M3 Track pack
R8

Before only the Z06 with a bunch of mods was a true competitor.

And that's with no big wings. Really goes to show how far GM is ahead. And here we are bickering over a second or 2 gain from pdk when in reality a z06 with the same hp as a 4.0 if they were to add RS aero would completely make minced meat of just about everything.

GM called it the Z06-x and they built a couple for display but never brought them to market. it would be hard to justify 50k more for an rs. That car would probably best the viper acr.

You cannot beat the those cars with a na flat 6 and small torque. As long as the gt3 stays that way it will get left farther and farther behind. By antiquated slow shifting manuals.
