Default (Time sensitive) any feedback on this DME report?

Hi all,

I found my dream spec 991.2 GT3 in terms of colors and specifications. Unfortunately, it looks like it's had an overrev. I am not sure how to view this DME report and wondering if anyone can opine. It looks like it has had some 4, 5, 6 overrevs -- I thought ignitions for those are typically 0...

I'm curious: 1) would you buy this car? 2) if you wouldn't, why not (what is the downside risk) 3) if you would, would you ask for a discount? 4) Is it possible to buy a platinum warranty for it to mitigate any issues down the road?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like it got overreved to 10.2k rpm, honestly I probably wouldn't buy, there are plenty of other clean cars. Just look for ones with range 1 - 3 only. Range 4+ can be more risky.

Personally, that’s one of worse DME reports I’ve seen. Porsche would not CPO that car without some very thorough testing. Even then, they might not do it. I’d look for another one.

I have a 991.2 GT3 that I bought with 11k rpm over rev for 4s but it was a while ago, see the operating time, just like yours. Never had it skip a beat for the past year of ownership, including a lot of HPDE days.

You could use it to negotiate as I personally think the car would be perfectly fine as long as properly serviced. As others said though, there's plenty of clean ones out there if it really worries you.

It's probably fine but had a hard life to be sure so the price needs to match. The range 6 over rev was a separate event from at least one range 5 so it wasn't a single mis shift but several. Not ideal but 10.2K more than 60 hours ago is not likely to blow up anymore.

Am I correct in assuming this is a manual transmission car?

What does major look like to you? It looks like it’s been 100 hours since the last missed shift in Range 6 which I’ve heard means it’s OK but this will definitely kill resale value

So, it’s a 991.2 GT3 manual: I would look at a range 6 over rev like a moderate accident, insofar as depreciation is concerned, so that would be a 20-30% discount off of the regular price of one without an accident history,

When I look for a manual I don't want anything in range 5 and especially 6 given it's not like there was a lot of time in the car too.

If you really like the car, you should try to bargain with it and get a good discount with minimum $15k off and car market is slow right now too.

Otherwise, like everyone said there are lots of clean 991.2 GT3 right now in the market.

As an update: I spoke to a couple of well respected Porsche race shops in SoCal who indicated that while this is DME concerning, the fact that the engine has had 600 hours and these issues happened at 150 hours means that the car is likely “fine” and would be CPO’d by Porsche whose policy is 200 hours to CPO.

One of them suggested conducting a compression and leak down test to verify.

I am strongly leaning towards the “hard pass” based on the replies in this thread and curious to know if anyone would change their opinion based on the above? Fortunately I have leads on other cars I feel more comfortable about.

Let them CPO it, then…which I doubt they can do. In the meantime, I wouldn’t buy it, unless you get something like 30% off.

Do you trust some randos on the internet or a (what I assume) reputable racing shop that certainly has seen more of these cars?

You can't go wrong either way, of course if you have options, pick the one that makes you worry less about potential issues. I was in the same spot as you, but didn't have other options and got a good discount on the car. To this day, I couldn't find a similar car / deal.

If you want to dive a little deeper in the DME topic, check out
