Repair or not? 991.2 after heavy crash
Hey Guys,
so I was thinking about getting this 991.2 as a project. Im unsure if I should try and repair it or just wait for a better one? I know the whole front will need to be repaired, but could the crash have caused any engine or transmission damage in the back? It looks like quite an impact. I wouldnt sell the car, but later down the road are there problems that can show up because of this crash? The second question I have is that the front around the door looks like the damage is past just the front tub, what do you think?

How much experience do you have repairing cars damaged like this? it will also depend on what it will cost to buy this. Personally, I would wait to buy one that isn't as heavily damaged.

what's your motivation - would you keep the car "forever" - have you priced out the cost of repairs, are they significantly less than a new un-damaged car?

Even though most go in thinking they'll keep a car forever, they rarely do. I'd find an undamaged one unless you have a lot of prior experience repairing and are confident in the only real difference between a branded title.

I would not buy to repair.
Damage looks too extensive.
But that wing sure would look nice on my 991.2 Turbo...

It is for around $70k. I wouldnt do all the work myself. Id just disassemble it and get the parts. Id leave the new tub, wheel/brake assembly and the other major parts of the repair to a certified shop.
Couldve any engine or transmission damage occured?

some internal damage ...
my $0.02 is stay away, this car is a parts donor at best... I could imagine most shops would run away from working on this ...

I don't think that car would be worth repairing even if you could get all the parts for free. The labor cost alone wouldn't be worth the investment. That's a donor car, it's worth what the undamaged parts are worth and the rest goes to the scrapyard.

Pass. Big time
Mat Armstrong rebuilt a totaled 992 GT3 on Youtube with far less damage. The amount of work involved is incredible. Getting parts is a nontrivial issue. Labor costs will be astronomical.
The tub looks completed wrecked in this picture - I don't see how that's fixable with this degree of damage. This a parts car.

I've done the luggage compartment repair and the strut housing replacement, not aware of any repair sections that go back that far. I would bet money that the lower front casting is cracked which generally means tub replacement anyway, and yes there is damage to all of the engine/gearbox mounts probably seat mounts too.
